Rassemblant l'ensemble de la documentation aujourd'hui disponible dans les centres d'archives de France et des Pays-Bas, l'auteur nous montre comment, a? partir d'une simple agglome?ration d'artisans, cet e?tablissement est devenu une me?tropole structure?e selon un plan d'urbanisme rigoureux, comment, aussi, s'est de?veloppe? le syste?me de?fensif de la place, du modeste fort barlong de Franc?ois Martin au fort Louis et a? la grande enceinte du temps de Dupleix, jusqu'a? la de?cre?pitude de la fin du xviiie sie?cle, nous permettant ainsi de lire, comme en filigrane, les e?paisseurs du passe? de Pondiche?ry. 330 $aThe discovery of new cartographic material relating to the origins of the urban development and social structure of Pondicherry at crucial moments of its history considerably modifies our representation of the town. On the basis of all the documentation that is currently available in Archives in France and in the Netherlands, the author shows us how, from a simple town of craftsmen, this settlement became a metropolis structured according to a rigorous urban plan. He also shows us how the defense system of the place developed from a modest rectangular fort built by Franc?ois Martin to the Fort Louis and the large outer fortification at the time of Dupleix, until its final decay at the end of the 18th century. We are thus able to see, beneath the surface, the many layers of Pondicherry's past. 517 $aVieux Pondichéry 606 $aUrbanization 615 0$aUrbanization. 676 $a307.76 700 $aDeloche$b Jean$0641090 801 0$bNjHacI 801 1$bNjHacl 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910725994303321 996 $aVieux Pondiche?ry (1673-1824) revisite? d'apre?s les plans anciens$93394725 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03256nam 2200577Ia 450 001 9910789414003321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a0-8047-7757-8 024 7 $a10.1515/9780804777575 035 $a(CKB)2670000000095388 035 $a(EBL)714454 035 $a(OCoLC)730151901 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC714454 035 $a(DE-B1597)563592 035 $a(DE-B1597)9780804777575 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL714454 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10478475 035 $a(OCoLC)1198931609 035 $a(PPN)154981737 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000095388 100 $a20101008h20112011 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aRestoring the innovative edge$b[electronic resource] $edriving the evolution of science and technology /$fJerald Hage 210 $aStanford $cStanford University Press$d2011 215 $a1 online resource (327 p.) 225 1 $aInnovation and technology in the world economy 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a0-8047-7479-X 311 $a0-8047-7480-3 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $aContents; List of Figures and Tables; Acknowledgments; Introduction; 1.
