In this small Iupiaq community, flooding and erosion are forcing community members to consider relocation as the only possible solution for long-term safety. However, a tangled web of policy obstacles, lack of funding, and organizational challenges leaves the community without a clear way forward, creating serious questions of how to maintain cultural identity under the new climate regime. Elizabeth Marino analyzes this unique and grounded example of a warming world as a confluence of political injustice, histories of colonialism, global climate change, and contemporary development decisions. The book merges theoretical insights from disaster studies, political analysis, and passages from field notes into an eminently readable text for a wide audience. This is an ethnography of climate change; a glimpse into the lived experiences of a global phenomenon. 606 $aHuman beings$xEffect of climate on$zAlaska$zShishmaref 606 $aEthnology$zAlaska$zShishmaref 606 $aClimatic changes$zAlaska$zShishmaref 606 $aIndigenous peoples$zAlaska$zShishmaref$xEcology 606 $aClimat$xChangements$zE?tats-Unis$zAlaska (E?tats-Unis)$2ram 606 $aEthnologie$zE?tats-Unis$zAlaska (E?tats-Unis)$2ram 606 $aHomme$xEffets du climat$zE?tats-Unis$zAlaska (E?tats-Unis)$2ram 606 $aUmsiedlung$2gnd 606 $aKulturelle Identität$2gnd 606 $aKüste$2gnd 606 $aKlimaänderung$2gnd 606 $aInyupiat$2gnd 606 $aErosion$2gnd 606 $aRemote-sensing maps$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01094488 606 $aEthnoecology$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00970226 606 $aHuman beings$xEffect of climate on$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00962839 606 $aEthnology$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00916106 606 $aClimatic changes$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00864229 606 $aRefugies ecologiques$zAlaska$zShishmaref$vE?tudes de cas 606 $aJustice environnementale$zAlaska$zShishmaref$vE?tudes de cas 606 $aInupiat (Inuits)$zAlaska$zShishmaref$xRelations avec l'E?tat$2ram 606 $aInupiat (Inuits)$xDeplacement$zAlaska$zShishmaref 606 $aEthnologie$zAlaska$zShishmaref 606 $aHomme$xInfluence du climat$zAlaska$zShishmaref 606 $aClimat$xChangements$xAspect anthropologique$zAlaska$zShishmaref$2ram 606 $aEthnoecology$zAlaska$zShishmaref 606 $aClimatic changes$zAlaska$zShishmaref 606 $aEthnology$zAlaska$zShishmaref 606 $aHuman beings$xEffect of climate on$zAlaska$zShishmaref 607 $aShishmaref (Alaska)$xRemote-sensing maps 607 $aAlaska$zShishmaref$2fast 607 $aShishmaref (Alaska)$xConditions environnementales 607 $aShishmaref (Alaska)$vMaps 608 $aSpatiocartes. 608 $aRemote-sensing maps. 608 $aRemote-sensing maps. 615 0$aHuman beings$xEffect of climate on 615 0$aEthnology 615 0$aClimatic changes 615 0$aIndigenous peoples$xEcology. 615 7$aClimat$xChangements 615 7$aEthnologie 615 7$aHomme$xEffets du climat 615 7$aUmsiedlung. 615 7$aKulturelle Identität. 615 7$aKüste. 615 7$aKlimaänderung. 615 7$aInyupiat. 615 7$aErosion. 615 7$aRemote-sensing maps. 615 7$aEthnoecology. 615 7$aHuman beings$xEffect of climate on. 615 7$aEthnology. 615 7$aClimatic changes. 615 7$aRefugies ecologiques 615 7$aJustice environnementale 615 7$aInupiat (Inuits)$xRelations avec l'E?tat. 615 7$aInupiat (Inuits)$xDeplacement 615 7$aEthnologie 615 7$aHomme$xInfluence du climat 615 7$aClimat$xChangements$xAspect anthropologique 615 7$aEthnoecology 615 7$aClimatic changes 615 7$aEthnology 615 7$aHuman beings$xEffect of climate on 676 $a304.2/5097986 700 $aMarino$b Liz$4aut$01860489 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910956534403321 996 $aFierce Climate, Sacred Ground$94497968 997 $aUNINA
