The model is calibrated to data for the Czech Republic, where population aging is proceeding at a pace comparable to that in other advanced countries in Europe. Simulations show that population aging is likely to slow economic growth and improvements in living standards. Although reforms to raise labor force participation and productivity growth can mitigate these adverse effects, they are unlikely to eliminate the need for fiscal reforms. The budget will come under pressure from rising age-related expenditures, and consolidation will be needed to preserve debt sustainability. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/095 606 $aPopulation aging$xEconomic aspects 606 $aAge distribution (Demography) 606 $aLabor$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomics$2imf 606 $aDemography$2imf 606 $aEconomics of the Elderly$2imf 606 $aEconomics of the Handicapped$2imf 606 $aNon-labor Market Discrimination$2imf 606 $aDemand and Supply of Labor: General$2imf 606 $aDemographic Economics: General$2imf 606 $aFiscal Policy$2imf 606 $aLabor Standards: Labor Force Composition$2imf 606 $aPopulation & demography$2imf 606 $aLabour$2imf 606 $aincome economics$2imf 606 $aAging$2imf 606 $aLabor supply$2imf 606 $aPopulation and demographics$2imf 606 $aFiscal consolidation$2imf 606 $aLabor force participation$2imf 606 $aPopulation aging$2imf 606 $aLabor market$2imf 606 $aPopulation$2imf 606 $aFiscal policy$2imf 607 $aCzech Republic$2imf 615 0$aPopulation aging$xEconomic aspects. 615 0$aAge distribution (Demography) 615 7$aLabor 615 7$aMacroeconomics 615 7$aDemography 615 7$aEconomics of the Elderly 615 7$aEconomics of the Handicapped 615 7$aNon-labor Market Discrimination 615 7$aDemand and Supply of Labor: General 615 7$aDemographic Economics: General 615 7$aFiscal Policy 615 7$aLabor Standards: Labor Force Composition 615 7$aPopulation & demography 615 7$aLabour 615 7$aincome economics 615 7$aAging 615 7$aLabor supply 615 7$aPopulation and demographics 615 7$aFiscal consolidation 615 7$aLabor force participation 615 7$aPopulation aging 615 7$aLabor market 615 7$aPopulation 615 7$aFiscal policy 700 $aFaruqee$b Hamid$01462084 701 $aTamirisa$b Natalia$01098414 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910788521303321 996 $aMacroeconomic Effects and Policy Challenges of Population Aging$93670935 997 $aUNINA
