The lessons we draw are of sufficiently general interest to be applicable to other countries or reforms of employment protection laws. Using a model that captures the characteristics of the French labor market, we simulate the effects of this reform on unemployment, employment, and welfare. We estimate that the CNE will lead to the creation of 70,000 additional jobs in the long run, but at the cost of a slight deterioration in welfare. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/301 606 $aLabor contract$zFrance 606 $aJob creation$zFrance 606 $aLabor laws and legislation$zFrance 606 $aLabor$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomics$2imf 606 $aDemand and Supply of Labor: General$2imf 606 $aLabor Contracts$2imf 606 $aUnemployment: Models, Duration, Incidence, and Job Search$2imf 606 $aUnemployment Insurance$2imf 606 $aSeverance Pay$2imf 606 $aPlant Closings$2imf 606 $aMobility, Unemployment, and Vacancies: Public Policy$2imf 606 $aLabor Force and Employment, Size, and Structure$2imf 606 $aLabor Economics: General$2imf 606 $aLabor Demand$2imf 606 $aLabour$2imf 606 $aincome economics$2imf 606 $aLabor markets$2imf 606 $aLabor force$2imf 606 $aUnemployment$2imf 606 $aJob creation$2imf 606 $aLabor market$2imf 606 $aLabor economics$2imf 607 $aFrance$2imf 615 0$aLabor contract 615 0$aJob creation 615 0$aLabor laws and legislation 615 7$aLabor 615 7$aMacroeconomics 615 7$aDemand and Supply of Labor: General 615 7$aLabor Contracts 615 7$aUnemployment: Models, Duration, Incidence, and Job Search 615 7$aUnemployment Insurance 615 7$aSeverance Pay 615 7$aPlant Closings 615 7$aMobility, Unemployment, and Vacancies: Public Policy 615 7$aLabor Force and Employment, Size, and Structure 615 7$aLabor Economics: General 615 7$aLabor Demand 615 7$aLabour 615 7$aincome economics 615 7$aLabor markets 615 7$aLabor force 615 7$aUnemployment 615 7$aJob creation 615 7$aLabor market 615 7$aLabor economics 700 $aCahuc$b Pierre$0148516 701 $aCarcillo$b Stéphane$01176587 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bFiscal Affairs Dept. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910788519803321 996 $aThe Shortcomings of a Partial Release of Employment Protection Laws$93670921 997 $aUNINA
