Using annual panel data for 10 large industrial countries over the period 1980-2001, I find that reforms in the Canadian tax and benefit system in the mid-1990s account for at least one-third of the observed increase in female participation in the period 1995-2001. The analysis indicates that policy initiatives similar to the "family-friendly" policies introduced in Canada could boost female participation in other countries and help policymakers meet the challenges of population aging. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/092 606 $aInternational economic integration 606 $aMonetary unions$zGulf Cooperation Council countries 606 $aLabor$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomics$2imf 606 $aTaxation$2imf 606 $aWomen''s Studies'$2imf 606 $aEconomics of Gender$2imf 606 $aNon-labor Discrimination$2imf 606 $aTaxation, Subsidies, and Revenue: General$2imf 606 $aDemand and Supply of Labor: General$2imf 606 $aLabor Economics: General$2imf 606 $aLabor Standards: Labor Force Composition$2imf 606 $aLabour$2imf 606 $aincome economics$2imf 606 $aGender studies$2imf 606 $awomen & girls$2imf 606 $aPublic finance & taxation$2imf 606 $aWomen$2imf 606 $aTax wedge$2imf 606 $aLabor markets$2imf 606 $aLabor force participation$2imf 606 $aTax administration and procedure$2imf 606 $aLabor market$2imf 606 $aLabor economics$2imf 607 $aCanada$2imf 615 0$aInternational economic integration. 615 0$aMonetary unions 615 7$aLabor 615 7$aMacroeconomics 615 7$aTaxation 615 7$aWomen''s Studies' 615 7$aEconomics of Gender 615 7$aNon-labor Discrimination 615 7$aTaxation, Subsidies, and Revenue: General 615 7$aDemand and Supply of Labor: General 615 7$aLabor Economics: General 615 7$aLabor Standards: Labor Force Composition 615 7$aLabour 615 7$aincome economics 615 7$aGender studies 615 7$awomen & girls 615 7$aPublic finance & taxation 615 7$aWomen 615 7$aTax wedge 615 7$aLabor markets 615 7$aLabor force participation 615 7$aTax administration and procedure 615 7$aLabor market 615 7$aLabor economics 700 $aTsounta$b Evridiki$01493448 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bStatistics Dept. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910788412703321 996 $aWhy Are Women Working So Much More in Canada?
