CONCLUSION AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS"" 330 3 $aUsing an input-output approach, this paper assesses the distributional effects of a rise in various petroleum product prices in Mali. The results show that, although rising gasoline and diesel prices affect mainly nonpoor households, rising kerosene prices are most harmful to the poor. Overall, the impact of fuel prices on household budgets displays a U-shaped relationship with expenditure per capita. Regardless of the oil product considered, highincome households would benefit disproportionately from oil price subsidies. This suggests that a petroleum price subsidy is an ineffective mechanism for protecting the income of poor households compared with a targeted subsidy. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/091 606 $aCost and standard of living$xEconomic aspects$zMali 606 $aPetroleum industry and trade$xSubsidies$zMali 606 $aPetroleum products$xEconomic aspects$zMali$xEconometric models 606 $aInvestments: Energy$2imf 606 $aInflation$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomics$2imf 606 $aPublic Finance$2imf 606 $aGeneral Equilibrium and Disequilibrium: Input-Output Tables and Analysis$2imf 606 $aEnergy: Demand and Supply$2imf 606 $aPrices$2imf 606 $aPrice Level$2imf 606 $aDeflation$2imf 606 $aEnergy: General$2imf 606 $aNational Government Expenditures and Related Policies: General$2imf 606 $aInvestment & securities$2imf 606 $aPublic finance & taxation$2imf 606 $aEnergy industries & utilities$2imf 606 $aOil prices$2imf 606 $aOil$2imf 606 $aExpenditure$2imf 606 $aEnergy subsidies$2imf 606 $aCommodities$2imf 606 $aPetroleum industry and trade$2imf 606 $aExpenditures, Public$2imf 607 $aMali$2imf 615 0$aCost and standard of living$xEconomic aspects 615 0$aPetroleum industry and trade$xSubsidies 615 0$aPetroleum products$xEconomic aspects$xEconometric models. 615 7$aInvestments: Energy 615 7$aInflation 615 7$aMacroeconomics 615 7$aPublic Finance 615 7$aGeneral Equilibrium and Disequilibrium: Input-Output Tables and Analysis 615 7$aEnergy: Demand and Supply 615 7$aPrices 615 7$aPrice Level 615 7$aDeflation 615 7$aEnergy: General 615 7$aNational Government Expenditures and Related Policies: General 615 7$aInvestment & securities 615 7$aPublic finance & taxation 615 7$aEnergy industries & utilities 615 7$aOil prices 615 7$aOil 615 7$aExpenditure 615 7$aEnergy subsidies 615 7$aCommodities 615 7$aPetroleum industry and trade 615 7$aExpenditures, Public 700 $aKpodar$b Kangni$01193209 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bAfrican Dept. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910788410403321 996 $aDistributional Effects of Oil Price Changeson Household Expenditures$93802240 997 $aUNINA
