LOOKING AHEAD""; ""Appendix: Data Sources and Description""; ""REFERENCES"" 330 3 $aIndia has followed an idiosyncratic pattern of development, certainly compared with other fast-growing Asian economies. While the importance of services rather than manufacturing is widely noted, within manufacturing India has emphasized skill-intensive rather than laborintensive manufacturing, and industries with higher-than-average scale. Some of these distinctive patterns existed prior to the beginning of economic reforms in the 1980s, and stem from the idiosyncratic policies adopted after India's independence. Using the growth of fastmoving Indian states as a guide, we conclude that India may not revert to the pattern followed by other countries, despite reforms that have removed some policy impediments that contributed to India's distinctive path. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/022 606 $aEconomic development 606 $aLabor$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomics$2imf 606 $aIndustries: Manufacturing$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomics: Production$2imf 606 $aEmployment$2imf 606 $aUnemployment$2imf 606 $aWages$2imf 606 $aIntergenerational Income Distribution$2imf 606 $aAggregate Human Capital$2imf 606 $aAggregate Labor Productivity$2imf 606 $aIndustry Studies: Services: General$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomic Analyses of Economic Development$2imf 606 $aIndustrialization$2imf 606 $aManufacturing and Service Industries$2imf 606 $aChoice of Technology$2imf 606 $aEconomic Growth and Aggregate Productivity: General$2imf 606 $aMeasurement of Economic Growth$2imf 606 $aAggregate Productivity$2imf 606 $aCross-Country Output Convergence$2imf 606 $aIndustry Studies: Manufacturing: General$2imf 606 $aLabor Economics: General$2imf 606 $aAggregate Factor Income Distribution$2imf 606 $aPublic Enterprises$2imf 606 $aPublic-Private Enterprises$2imf 606 $aManufacturing industries$2imf 606 $aLabour$2imf 606 $aincome economics$2imf 606 $aCivil service & public sector$2imf 606 $aManufacturing$2imf 606 $aIncome$2imf 606 $aPublic sector$2imf 606 $aEconomic sectors$2imf 606 $aNational accounts$2imf 606 $aLabor economics$2imf 606 $aFinance, Public$2imf 606 $aEconomic theory$2imf 607 $aIndia$xEconomic conditions$y1947- 607 $aIndia$xEconomic policy 607 $aIndia$2imf 615 0$aEconomic development. 615 7$aLabor 615 7$aMacroeconomics 615 7$aIndustries: Manufacturing 615 7$aMacroeconomics: Production 615 7$aEmployment 615 7$aUnemployment 615 7$aWages 615 7$aIntergenerational Income Distribution 615 7$aAggregate Human Capital 615 7$aAggregate Labor Productivity 615 7$aIndustry Studies: Services: General 615 7$aMacroeconomic Analyses of Economic Development 615 7$aIndustrialization 615 7$aManufacturing and Service Industries 615 7$aChoice of Technology 615 7$aEconomic Growth and Aggregate Productivity: General 615 7$aMeasurement of Economic Growth 615 7$aAggregate Productivity 615 7$aCross-Country Output Convergence 615 7$aIndustry Studies: Manufacturing: General 615 7$aLabor Economics: General 615 7$aAggregate Factor Income Distribution 615 7$aPublic Enterprises 615 7$aPublic-Private Enterprises 615 7$aManufacturing industries 615 7$aLabour 615 7$aincome economics 615 7$aCivil service & public sector 615 7$aManufacturing 615 7$aIncome 615 7$aPublic sector 615 7$aEconomic sectors 615 7$aNational accounts 615 7$aLabor economics 615 7$aFinance, Public 615 7$aEconomic theory 700 $aSubramanian$b Arvind$01492436 701 $aRajan$b Raghuram$01331365 701 $aTokatlidis$b Ioannis$01546546 701 $aKochhar$b Kalpana$01546547 701 $aKumar$b Utsav$01546548 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bResearch Dept. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910788409903321 996 $aIndia's Pattern of Development$93802235 997 $aUNINA
