Questionnaire on Risk-taking by Commercial Banks Operating in Afghanistan- Addressed to CEOs/Top Management- 330 3 $aLending practices of commercial banks in Afghanistan were analyzed using CAMEL ratings. Statistically significant correlations were found: Banks with worse ratings (a) had more lending to domestic clients and (b) paid less tax. There was no statistically significant relationship between profits and total assets or between lending/assets versus profit/assets. Interviews of senior management of 8 banks accounting for about 90 percent of the commercial banking system corroborated evidence that poorly rated banks lend to domestic clients, whereas highly rated banks do not lend. Banks that lend extensively domestically engage in extra-judicial, non-traditional contract enforcement. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2009/150 606 $aBanks and banking$zAfghanistan 606 $aBanks and Banking$2imf 606 $aMoney and Monetary Policy$2imf 606 $aBanks$2imf 606 $aDepository Institutions$2imf 606 $aMicro Finance Institutions$2imf 606 $aMortgages$2imf 606 $aMonetary Policy, Central Banking, and the Supply of Money and Credit: General$2imf 606 $aBanking$2imf 606 $aMonetary economics$2imf 606 $aCommercial banks$2imf 606 $aBank credit$2imf 606 $aState-owned banks$2imf 606 $aForeign banks$2imf 606 $aBanks and banking$2imf 606 $aCredit$2imf 606 $aBanks and banking, Foreign$2imf 607 $aAfghanistan$xEconomic policy 607 $aAfghanistan, Islamic Republic of$2imf 615 0$aBanks and banking 615 7$aBanks and Banking 615 7$aMoney and Monetary Policy 615 7$aBanks 615 7$aDepository Institutions 615 7$aMicro Finance Institutions 615 7$aMortgages 615 7$aMonetary Policy, Central Banking, and the Supply of Money and Credit: General 615 7$aBanking 615 7$aMonetary economics 615 7$aCommercial banks 615 7$aBank credit 615 7$aState-owned banks 615 7$aForeign banks 615 7$aBanks and banking 615 7$aCredit 615 7$aBanks and banking, Foreign 700 $aCharap$b Joshua$01472659 701 $aPavlovic$b Jelena$01472660 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bMiddle East and Central Asia Dept. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910788331603321 996 $aDevelopment of the Commercial Banking System in Afghanistan$93685521 997 $aUNINA
