It theorizes that descriptive representation of minorities leads to improved responsiveness to minority interests contingent on the percentage of minority representatives, the proportion of minorities in the district, level of party fragmentation among minority representatives, their political incorporation, and the electoral competitiveness of the district. It uses multivariate regression analysis to test the effects of these five explanatory variables. It validates the quantitative findings with case studies of three London boroughs while also investigating the role of representational styles of Muslim councillors on their political attitudes and behavior. 410 0$aMuslim minorities ;$vVolume 16. 606 $aLocal government$zGreat Britain 606 $aCity council members$zGreat Britain 606 $aMuslims$xPolitical activity$zGreat Britain 606 $aMuslims$zGreat Britain$xPolitics and government 606 $aMinorities$xPolitical activity$zGreat Britain 607 $aGreat Britain$xRace relations$xPolitical aspects 607 $aGreat Britain$xEthnic relations$xPolitical aspects 615 0$aLocal government 615 0$aCity council members 615 0$aMuslims$xPolitical activity 615 0$aMuslims$xPolitics and government. 615 0$aMinorities$xPolitical activity 676 $a320.8/50882970941 700 $aTatari$b Eren$01573649 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910787966103321 996 $aMuslims in British local government$93849476 997 $aUNINA
