Some who support transracial adoption use a theory of colorblindness, while many who oppose it draw a causal connection between race and culture and argue that a black child's racial and cultural interests are best served by black adoptive parents. Hawley Fogg-Davis carves out a middle ground between these positions. She believes that race should not be a barrier to adoption, but neither should it be absent from the minds of prospective adopters and adoption practitioners. Fogg-Davis's argument in favor of transracial adoption is based on the moral and legal principle of nondiscrimination and a theory of race-consciousness she terms "racial navigation." Challenging the notion that children "get" their racial identity from their parents, she argues that children, through the process of racial navigation, should cultivate their self-identification in dialogue with others. The Ethics of Transracial Adoption explores new ground in the transracial adoption debate by examining the relationship between personal and public conceptions of race and racism before, during, and after adoption. 606 $aInterracial adoption$xMoral and ethical aspects$zUnited States 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aInterracial adoption$xMoral and ethical aspects 676 $a362.7340973 700 $aFogg-Davis$b Hawley Grace$f1970-$01044407 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910466854103321 996 $aThe ethics of transracial adoption$92470055 997 $aUNINA LEADER 05767nam 2200709 450 001 9910787854703321 005 20230124191227.0 010 $a1-62637-129-6 024 7 $a10.1515/9781626371293 035 $a(CKB)2670000000546571 035 $a(EBL)3329098 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001133536 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12428566 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001133536 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11159237 035 $a(PQKB)10678493 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3329098 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3329098 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10913717 035 $a(OCoLC)871258485 035 $a(DE-B1597)623763 035 $a(DE-B1597)9781626371293 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000546571 100 $a20140901h20112011 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aChina engages Latin America $etracing the trajectory /$fedited by Adrian H. In China Engages Latin America, experts from three continents provide local answers to this global question. The authors explore the multiple motivations driving the establishment of new Sino?Latin American linkages, the nature of those linkages, and the reactions that they have generated. They also examine how China?Latin America relations have developed over more than two hundred years. The result is a work that deals with key issues of broad regional relevance, as well as country-specific political, economic, and cultural concerns. 606 $aPOLITICAL SCIENCE / World / Asian$2bisacsh 607 $aChina$xForeign relations$zLatin America 607 $aLatin America$xForeign relations$zChina 607 $aChina$xForeign economic relations$zLatin America 607 $aLatin America$xForeign economic relations$zChina 607 $aLatin America$xStrategic aspects 607 $aChina$xStrategic aspects 615 7$aPOLITICAL SCIENCE / World / Asian. 676 $a337.5108 702 $aHearn$b Adrian H.$f1975- 702 $aLeo?n$b Jose?
