Most of the essays deal with the relationship between science and Confucianism, especially the roles that Confucian thought, values, and institutions have on the development of science. Kim shows that this relationship is very complex and multifaceted, and cannot be dealt with in a simplistic manner. Kim offers comparative perspectives and discusses the problems of intercultural comparisons; he demonstrates that in spite of the potential dangers that accompany these comparisons, they should be made nonetheless as they allow for a better understanding of the situation in East Asia. 410 0$aScience and religion ;$vv. 1. 606 $aScience$zEast Asia$xHistory 606 $aScience$xHistory$vCross-cultural studies 607 $aEast Asia$xCivilization$xConfucian influences 615 0$aScience$xHistory. 615 0$aScience$xHistory 676 $a509.5 700 $aKim$b Yo?ng-sik$f1947-$4aut$01484469 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910787622003321 996 $aQuestioning science in East Asian contexts$93703114 997 $aUNINA
