Now editors Jerome Rothenberg and Jeffrey C. Robinson bring a radically new interpretation to the poetry of the preceding century, viewing the work of the romantic and post-romantic poets as an international, collective, often utopian enterprise that became the foundation of experimental modernism. Global in its range, volume three gathers selections from the poetry and manifestos of canonical poets, as well as the work of lesser-known but equally radical poets. Defining romanticism as experimental and visionary, Rothenberg and Robinson feature prose poetry, verbal-visual experiments, and sound poetry, along with more familiar forms seen here as if for the first time. The anthology also explores romanticism outside the European orbit and includes ethnopoetic and archaeological works outside the literary mainstream. The range of volume three and its skewing of the traditional canon illuminate the process by which romantics and post- romantics challenged nineteenth-century orthodoxies and propelled poetry to the experiments of a later modernism and avant-gardism. 606 $aPoetry, Modern 606 $aPoetry 610 $aalfred tennyson. 610 $acharles darwin. 610 $achristina rossetti. 610 $adiscussion books. 610 $aedgar allan poe. 610 $aelizabeth barrett browning. 610 $aemily dickinson. 610 $ahenry wadsworth longfellow. 610 $aherman melville. 610 $ainternational poetry. 610 $ajean jacques rousseau. 610 $ajohann wolfgang von goethe. 610 $ajohn keats. 610 $aliterary. 610 $amary robinson. 610 $apercy bysshe shelley. 610 $apoetry and poets. 610 $apoetry anthology. 610 $apost romantic poetry. 610 $aprose poetry. 610 $aralph waldo emerson. 610 $arobert burns. 610 $aromantic poetry. 610 $asound poetry. 610 $avictor hugo. 610 $awalt whitman. 610 $awilliam blake. 610 $awilliam wordsworth. 615 0$aPoetry, Modern. 615 0$aPoetry. 676 $a808.81 701 $aRothenberg$b Jerome$f1931-$032750 701 $aRobinson$b Jeffrey C$01516925 712 02$aUniversity of California (System) 712 02$aUniversity of California Press. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910787558203321 996 $aPoems for the millennium$93753643 997 $aUNINA
