Eine zentrale Bedeutung besitzen dabei Aristoteles? ausgedehnten und ertragreichen Forschungsreisen, die er zum Teil zusammen mit Theophrast durchgeführt hat und die sich aus zerstreuten geographischen Angaben rekonstruieren lassen. Nach Auffassung des Vf. ist die Rolle der Biologie in Aristoteles? Lebenswerk durch die wechselvolle Wirkungsgeschichte seiner Werke verdunkelt worden.Mit philologischen Argumenten werden philosophische Systematisierungsversuche der biologischen Schriften einer kritischen Revision unterzogen. Als adäquater Maßstab für ihre Würdigung wird vom Vf. ihr biologischer Aussagewert betrachtet, der sich aus dem Vergleich mit der modernen Forschung ergibt. Besonderes Interesse gilt dabei der Antizipation evolutionsbiologischer Erkenntnisse, indem z.B.
