Drawing on theories of intermediality, Liveness on Stage explores how performances that incorporate film or video self-reflexively stage and challenge their own liveness by contrasting or approximating live and mediatised action. To illustrate this, the monograph investigates key aspects such as 'ephemerality', 'co-presence', 'unpredictability', 'interaction' and 'realistic representation' and highlights their significance for re-evaluating received notions of liveness. The analysis is based on productions by Gob Squad, Forkbeard Fantasy, Station House Opera, Proto-type Theater, Tim Etchells and Mary Oliver. In their playful approaches these practitioners predominantly present such media combination as a means of cross-fertilisation rather than as an antagonism between liveness and mediatisation. Combining an original theoretical approach with an in-depth analysis of the selected productions, this study will appeal to scholars and practitioners of theatre and performance as well as to those researching intermedial phenomena. 410 0$aCDE studies ;$vVolume 25. 606 $aTheater$zGreat Britain$xHistory$y21st century 606 $aTheater$xTechnological innovations$zGreat Britain 606 $aExperimental theater$zGreat Britain 610 $aFilm and Video. 610 $aIntermediality. 610 $aTheatre and Performance. 610 $aTheatre. 615 0$aTheater$xHistory 615 0$aTheater$xTechnological innovations 615 0$aExperimental theater 676 $a792.0941/09051 686 $aHN 1274$2rvk 700 $aGeorgi$b Claudia$f1979-$01567266 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910787187003321 996 $aLiveness on stage$93838544 997 $aUNINA
