This book examines the development of the Communist Party in its first decade, from 1919 to 1929. Using the archives of the Communist International, this book, in contrast to previous studies, argues that the International played an important role in the early part of this decade in forcing the party to ?Americanise?. Special attention is given to the attempts by the Comintern to orient American Communists on the role of black oppression, and to see the struggle for black liberation and the fight for socialism as inextricably linked. The later sections of the book provide the most detailed account now available of how the Comintern, reflecting the Stalinisation of the Soviet Union, intervened in the American party to ensure the Stalinisation of American Communism. 410 0$aHistorical materialism book series ;$vVolume 82. 606 $aCommunism$zUnited States$xHistory$y20th century 615 0$aCommunism$xHistory 676 $a324.273/7509042 700 $aZumoff$b Jacob A.$01118955 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910787179503321 996 $aThe Communist International and US Communism, 1919-1929$93838472 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01367nam2-2200445li-450 001 990000195130203316 005 20240405091834.0 010 $a0-387-97703-1 035 $a0019513 035 $aUSA010019513 035 $a(ALEPH)000019513USA01 035 $a0019513 100 $a20001109d1982----km-y0itay0103----ba 101 0 $aeng 102 $aUS 200 1 $aRiemann surfaces$fH.
