Indeed, phrases that capture this notion abound in the popular vernacular: "negative energy," "dumping," "you could cut the tension with a knife." The Transmission of Affect deals with the belief that the emotions and energies of one person or group can be absorbed by or can enter directly into another. The ability to borrow or share states of mind, once historically and culturally assumed, is now pathologized, as Teresa Brennan shows in relation to affective transfer in psychiatric clinics and the prevalence of psychogenic illness in contemporary life. To neglect the mechanism by which affect is transmitted, the author claims, has serious consequences for science and medical research. Brennan's theory of affect is based on constant communication between individuals and their physical and social environments. Her important book details the relationships among affect, energy, and "new maladies of the soul," including attention deficit disorder, chronic fatigue syndrome, codependency, and fibromyalgia. 606 $aAffect (Psychology)$xSocial aspects 615 0$aAffect (Psychology)$xSocial aspects. 676 $a152.4 686 $aCP 3200$2rvk 700 $aBrennan$b Teresa$f1952-$0880025 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910786765103321 996 $aThe transmission of affect$93806748 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03235nam 2200637Ia 450 001 9910782204303321 005 20230422045448.0 010 $a1-280-83477-3 010 $a9786610834778 010 $a0-19-803179-3 035 $a(CKB)1000000000553495 035 $a(EBL)430733 035 $a(OCoLC)352890208 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000204525 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11168576 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000204525 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10188813 035 $a(PQKB)10429898 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC430733 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL430733 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10269232 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL83477 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000553495 100 $a20000718d2000 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aModern spatiotemporal geostatistics$b[electronic resource] /$fGeorge Christakos 210 $aOxford [England] ;$aNew York $cOxford University Press$d2000 215 $a1 online resource (307 p.) 225 1 $aInternational Association for Mathematical Geology studies in mathematical geology ;$v6 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a0-19-513895-3 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references (p. 273-282) and index. 327 $aPREFACE; TABLE OF CONTENTS; CHAPTER 1: Spatiotemporal Mapping in Natural Sciences; CHAPTER 2: Spatiotemporal Geometry; CHAPTER 3: Physical Knowledge; CHAPTER 4: The Epistemic Paradigm; CHAPTER 5: Mathematical Formulation of the BME Method; CHAPTER 6: Analytical Expressions of the Posterior Operator; CHAPTER 7: The Choice of a Spatiotemporal Estimate; CHAPTER 8: Uncertainty Assessment; CHAPTER 9: Modifications of Formal BME Analysis; CHAPTER 10: Single-Point Analytical Formulations; CHAPTER 11: Multipoint Analytical Formulations 327 $aCHAPTER 12: Popular Methods in the Light of Modern Spatiotemporal GeostatisticsCHAPTER 13: A Call Not to Arms but to Research; BIBLIOGRAPHY; INDEX 330 $aPreface. 1.
