It restricts itself to a limited number of indicators which are macro-orientated - population, fertility of land, ability to tap into economies of scale, income, and geographic isolation. It leaves aside equally important but more micro-orientated variables and development indicators. We show that small island states in the Pacific are different from countries in other regional groupings in that they are extremely isolated and have limited scope to tap economies of scale due to small populations. They often have little arable land. There is empirical evidence to suggest that these factors are related to income growth. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2012/223 606 $aIslands 606 $aMacroeconomics$2imf 606 $aDemography$2imf 606 $aMeasurement and Analysis of Poverty$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomic Analyses of Economic Development$2imf 606 $aEconomic Development: Urban, Rural, Regional, and Transportation Analysis$2imf 606 $aHousing$2imf 606 $aInfrastructure$2imf 606 $aEconomic Growth and Aggregate Productivity: General$2imf 606 $aEconomywide Country Studies: Oceania$2imf 606 $aComparative Studies of Countries$2imf 606 $aPersonal Income, Wealth, and Their Distributions$2imf 606 $aDemographic Economics: General$2imf 606 $aMeasurement and Data on National Income and Product Accounts and Wealth$2imf 606 $aEnvironmental Accounts$2imf 606 $aPopulation & demography$2imf 606 $aPersonal income$2imf 606 $aPopulation and demographics$2imf 606 $aNational income$2imf 606 $aNational accounts$2imf 606 $aIncome$2imf 606 $aPopulation$2imf 607 $aIslands of the Pacific 607 $aTuvalu$2imf 615 0$aIslands. 615 7$aMacroeconomics 615 7$aDemography 615 7$aMeasurement and Analysis of Poverty 615 7$aMacroeconomic Analyses of Economic Development 615 7$aEconomic Development: Urban, Rural, Regional, and Transportation Analysis 615 7$aHousing 615 7$aInfrastructure 615 7$aEconomic Growth and Aggregate Productivity: General 615 7$aEconomywide Country Studies: Oceania 615 7$aComparative Studies of Countries 615 7$aPersonal Income, Wealth, and Their Distributions 615 7$aDemographic Economics: General 615 7$aMeasurement and Data on National Income and Product Accounts and Wealth 615 7$aEnvironmental Accounts 615 7$aPopulation & demography 615 7$aPersonal income 615 7$aPopulation and demographics 615 7$aNational income 615 7$aNational accounts 615 7$aIncome 615 7$aPopulation 700 $aBecker$b Chris$01578659 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910786485703321 996 $aSmall Island States in the Pacific$93858244 997 $aUNINA
