In one of the first attempts to apply practice theory to the study of International Relations, Vincent Pouliot builds on Pierre Bourdieu's sociology to devise a theory of practice of security communities and applies it to post-Cold War security relations between NATO and Russia. Based on dozens of interviews and a thorough analysis of recent history, Pouliot demonstrates that diplomacy has become a normal, though not a self-evident, practice between the two former enemies. He argues that this limited pacification is due to the intense symbolic power struggles that have plagued the relationship ever since NATO began its process of enlargement at the geographical and functional levels. So long as Russia and NATO do not cast each other in the roles that they actually play together, security community development is bound to remain limited. 410 0$aCambridge studies in international relations ;$v113. 606 $aSecurity, International 607 $aRussia (Federation)$xForeign relations 615 0$aSecurity, International. 676 $a327.4701821 686 $a89.70$2bcl 700 $aPouliot$b Vincent$f1979-$0720067 712 02$aNorth Atlantic Treaty Organization, 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910792355503321 996 $aInternational security in practice$93766056 997 $aUNINA LEADER 06288nam 2200829Ia 450 001 9910786433903321 005 20211101204729.0 010 $a1-283-85670-0 010 $a3-11-025905-2 024 7 $a10.1515/9783110259056 035 $a(CKB)2670000000309334 035 $a(EBL)893757 035 $a(OCoLC)823284280 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000784773 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12300977 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000784773 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10763602 035 $a(PQKB)11777767 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC893757 035 $a(DE-B1597)124133 035 $a(OCoLC)820121233 035 $a(OCoLC)853254384 035 $a(DE-B1597)9783110259056 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL893757 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10634582 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL416920 035 $a(PPN)202071340 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000309334 100 $a20121206d2012 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnn#---|u||u 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aComputational methods for applied inverse problems$b[electronic resource] /$fedited by Yanfei Wang, Anatoly G. The subjects are related to mathematics, physics, geophysics, geochemistry, oceanography, geography and remote sensing, astronomy, biomedicine, and other areas of applications. This monograph reports recent advances of inversion theory and recent developments with practical applications in frontiers of sciences, especially inverse design and novel computational methods for inverse problems. The practical applications include inverse scattering, chemistry, molecular spectra data processing, quantitative remote sensing inversion, seismic imaging, oceanography, and astronomical imaging. The book serves as a reference book and readers who do research in applied mathematics, engineering, geophysics, biomedicine, image processing, remote sensing, and environmental science will benefit from the contents since the book incorporates a background of using statistical and non-statistical methods, e.g., regularization and optimization techniques for solving practical inverse problems. 410 0$aInverse and Ill-Posed Problems Series 606 $aInverse problems (Differential equations)$xNumerical solutions 606 $aDifferential equations$xNumerical solutions 610 $aComputational Method. 610 $aGeography. 610 $aGeophysics. 610 $aImage Processing. 610 $aInverse Problem. 610 $aOceanography. 610 $aOperator Theory. 610 $aOptimization. 610 $aRegularization. 610 $aRemote Sensing. 615 0$aInverse problems (Differential equations)$xNumerical solutions. 615 0$aDifferential equations$xNumerical solutions. 676 $a515 676 $a515.35 676 $a515/.35 686 $aSK 920$2rvk 701 $aWang$b Yanfei$f1973-$01575478 701 $aYagola$b A.
