It is also only the second English-language monograph on this important transitional period in Polish history and the first in over 40 years. Milliman first analyzes the thirteenth-century borderland society of the south Baltic littoral, especially in Pomerania, and then uses the lengthy testimonies of over 150 witnesses from the fourteenth-century trials to examine the role of the memory of this borderland in informing the witnesses' views of where the kingdom of Poland was as well as who should be included within its boundaries. 410 0$aEast Central and Eastern Europe in the Middle Ages, 450-1450$v21. 606 $aBorderlands$zPoland$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aBorderlands$zGermany$xHistory$yTo 1500 607 $aPomerania (Poland and Germany)$xHistory 607 $aPoland$xHistory$y14th century 607 $aPomerania (Poland and Germany)$xRelations$zPoland 607 $aPoland$xRelations$zPomerania (Poland and Germany) 615 0$aBorderlands$xHistory 615 0$aBorderlands$xHistory 676 $a943.8/022 700 $aMilliman$b Paul$01496906 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910786021803321 996 $a"The slippery memory of men"$93721827 997 $aUNINA
