The Surgeon General's office released several reports that showed dramatic disparities in tobacco use and access to mental health services by race and ethnicity. The first real legislation focused on reducing health disparities was signed into law, creating the National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities within the NIH. In 2001, the IOM released its landmark report, Crossing the Quality Chasm: A New Health System for the 21st Century, highlighting the importance of a focus on health care quality rather than a focus on only access and cost issues. Building upon these reports and events, the IOM held a workshop on April 8, 2010, that discussed progress to address health disparities and focused on the success of various federal initiatives to reduce health disparities. How Far Have We Come in Reducing Health Disparities? summarizes the workshop and explains the progress in the field since 2000"--Publisher's description. 606 $aHealth services accessibility$zUnited States$vCongresses 606 $aHealth care reform$zUnited States$vCongresses 606 $aMedical policy$zUnited States$vCongresses 606 $aMinorities$xMedical care$zUnited States$vCongresses 606 $aEthnic groups$xMedical care$zUnited States$vCongresses 606 $aMedical care$zUnited States$xRegional disparities$vCongresses 615 0$aHealth services accessibility 615 0$aHealth care reform 615 0$aMedical policy 615 0$aMinorities$xMedical care 615 0$aEthnic groups$xMedical care 615 0$aMedical care$xRegional disparities 676 $a362.10973 701 $aAnderson$b Karen M$01094210 712 02$aInstitute of Medicine (U.S.).$bRoundtable on the Promotion of Health Equity and the Elimination of Health Disparities. 712 02$aInstitute of Medicine (U.S.).$bBoard on Population Health and Public Health Practice. 712 02$aNational Academies Press (U.S.) 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910785912103321 996 $aHow far have we come in reducing health disparities$93782356 997 $aUNINA
