Driven by both theoretical and empirical concerns, Scott H. Ainsworth and Thad E. Hall present a simple, formal model of strategic incrementalism, illustrating that legislators often have incentives to alter policy incrementally. They then examine the sponsorship of abortion-related proposals as well as their committee referral and find that a wide range of Democratic and Republican legislators repeatedly offer abortion-related proposals designed to alter abortion policy incrementally. Abortion Politics in Congress reveals that abortion debates have permeated a wide range of issues and that a wide range of legislators and a large number of committees address abortion. 606 $aAbortion$xLaw and legislation$zUnited States 606 $aAbortion$xGovernment policy$zUnited States 606 $aAbortion$xPolitical aspects$zUnited States 615 0$aAbortion$xLaw and legislation 615 0$aAbortion$xGovernment policy 615 0$aAbortion$xPolitical aspects 676 $a362.19/88800973 700 $aAinsworth$b Scott H.$01475536 702 $aHall$b Thad E$g(Thad Edward),$f1968- 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910785324403321 996 $aAbortion politics in Congress$93689766 997 $aUNINA
