Many service members and veterans face serious challenges in readjusting to normal life after returning home. This initial book presents findings on the most critical challenges, and lays out the blueprint for the second phase of the study to determine how best to meet the needs of returning troops and their families. The statement of task for this study evolved out of discussions among the Department of Defense (DOD), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and IOM. Specifically, it was determined that in phase 1, the IOM committee would identify preliminary findings regarding the physical and mental health and other readjustment needs for members and former members of the Armed Forces who were deployed to OEF or OIF and their families as a result of such deployment. 606 $aAdaptation, Psychological - United States 606 $aAfghan War, 2001-2021$xVeterans$xServices for$zUnited States 606 $aIraq War, 2003-2011$xServices for$xVeterans$zUnited States 606 $aFamilies of military personnel$xServices for$zUnited States 606 $aVeterans$xMedical care$zUnited States 606 $aVeterans$xMental health services$zUnited States 606 $aMedical care$xNeeds assessment$zUnited States 606 $aSoldiers$xMental health services$zUnited States 606 $aMilitary dependents$xMedical care$zUnited States 606 $aVeterans 606 $aHealth Services 606 $aAdaptation, Psychological 606 $aAfghan Campaign 2001- 606 $aIraq War, 2003-2011 606 $aMilitary Personnel 606 $aNeeds Assessment 607 $aUnited States 615 4$aAdaptation, Psychological - United States. 615 0$aAfghan War, 2001-2021$xVeterans$xServices for 615 0$aIraq War, 2003-2011$xServices for$xVeterans 615 0$aFamilies of military personnel$xServices for 615 0$aVeterans$xMedical care 615 0$aVeterans$xMental health services 615 0$aMedical care$xNeeds assessment 615 0$aSoldiers$xMental health services 615 0$aMilitary dependents$xMedical care 615 12$aVeterans. 615 12$aHealth Services. 615 22$aAdaptation, Psychological. 615 22$aAfghan Campaign 2001- 615 22$aIraq War, 2003-2011. 615 22$aMilitary Personnel. 615 22$aNeeds Assessment. 676 $a355.11 700 $aCommittee on the Initial Assessment of Readjustment Needs of Military Personnel$b Veterans, and Their Families$01524406 712 02$aPopulations, Board on the Health of Selected. 712 02$aInstitute of Medicine (U.S.) Committee on the Initial Assessment of Readjustment Needs of Military Personnel, Veterans, and Their Families. 712 02$aNational Academies Press (U.S.) 801 0$bAU-PeEL 801 1$bAU-PeEL 801 2$bAU-PeEL 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910784955503321 996 $aReturning Home from Iraq and Afghanistan$93765226 997 $aUNINA
