Dealing with the role of spatial planning in major change such as urban extensions or redevelopment, this book asks how it can deliver at the local level. Setting out the new local governance within which spatial planning now operates and identifying the requirements of successful delivery, this book also provides an introduction to project management approaches to spatial planning. It details what the rules are for spatial planning, the role of evidence and public involvement in delivering the local vision and how this works as part of coherent and consistent sub-regional approach. The conclusion is a forward look at what is likely to follow the effective creation of inspiring and successful places using spatial planning as a key tool. 410 0$aRTPI library series. 606 $aCity planning$zEngland 606 $aRegional planning$zEngland 615 0$aCity planning 615 0$aRegional planning 676 $a307.1/2160942 700 $aMorphet$b Janice.$0275412 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910784952103321 996 $aEffective practice in spatial planning$9245415 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04862nam 22007692 450 001 9910826135103321 005 20220916110631.0 010 $a1-78138-794-X 010 $a1-78138-940-3 010 $a1-84631-998-6 035 $a(CKB)2550000001151019 035 $a(EBL)1591041 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001189925 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11777559 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001189925 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11198478 035 $a(PQKB)10935572 035 $a(StDuBDS)EDZ0000174516 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1481064 035 $a(UkCbUP)CR9781781387948 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL1481064 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10785777 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL878022 035 $a(OCoLC)863822170 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1591041 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL1591041 035 $a(OCoLC)867929563 035 $a(EXLCZ)992550000001151019 100 $a20170307d2013|||| uy| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aSurveying the American tropics $ea literary geography from New York to Rio /$fedited by Maria Cristina Fumagalli, Peter Hulme, Owen Robinson, and Lesley Wylie$b[electronic resource] 210 1$aLiverpool :$cLiverpool University Press,$d2013. 215 $a1 online resource (x, 365 pages) $cdigital, PDF file(s) 225 1 $aAmerican tropics ;$v2 300 $aTitle from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 11 Aug 2017). 311 1 $a1-84631-890-4 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $aA tree grows in Bajan Brooklyn : writing Caribbean New York / Martha Jane Nadell -- Reading the novum world : the literary geography of science fiction in Junot Diaz's The brief wonderful life of Oscar Wao / Mari?a del Pilar Blanco -- Inventing tropicality : writing fever, writing trauma in Leslie Marmon Silko's Almanac of the dead and Gardens in the dunes / Hsinya Huang -- Imperial archaeology : the American isthmus as contested scientific contact zone / Gesa Mackenthun -- Space age tropics / Mimi Sheller -- Black Jacobins and new world Mediterraneans / Susan Gillman -- The Oloffson / Alasdair Pettinger -- Dark thresholds in Trinidad : regarding the colonial house / Jak Peake -- Micronations of the Caribbean / Russell McDougall -- Golden kings, cocaine lords, and the madness of El Dorado : Guayana as native and colonial imaginary / Neil L. European colonial powers fought intensively here against indigenous populations and against each other for control of land and resources. The regions in the American Tropics share a history in which the dominant fact is the arrival of millions of white Europeans and black Africans; share an environment that is tropical or sub-tropical; and share a socio-economic model (the plantation), whose effects lasted at least well into the twentieth century. The imaginative space of the American Tropics therefore offers a differently centred literary history from those conventionally produced as US, Caribbean, or Latin American literature. This important collection brings together essays by distinguished scholars, including the late Neil Whitehead, Richard Price, Sally Price, and Susan Gillman, that engage with the idea of a literary geography of the American Tropics and that represent the rich diversity of the writing produced within this geographical area. 410 0$aAmerican tropics ;$v2. 606 $aAmerican literature$xHistory and criticism 606 $aCaribbean literature$xHistory and criticism 606 $aCentral American literature$xHistory and criticism 606 $aLatin American literature$xHistory and criticism 606 $aImperialism in literature 607 $aWest Indies$xIn literature 607 $aLatin America$xIn literature 615 0$aAmerican literature$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aCaribbean literature$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aCentral American literature$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aLatin American literature$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aImperialism in literature. 676 $a809.897 702 $aFumagalli$b Maria Cristina 702 $aHulme$b Peter 702 $aRobinson$b Owen 702 $aWylie$b Lesley 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910826135103321 996 $aSurveying the American tropics$94028828 997 $aUNINA
