In a luminous narrative, Angela Garcia chronicles the lives of several Hispano addicts, introducing us to the intimate, physical, and institutional dependencies in which they are entangled. We discover how history pervades this region that has endured centuries of material and cultural dispossession, and we come to see its heroin problem as a contemporary expression of these conditions, as well as a manifestation of the human desire to be released from them. Lyrically evoking the Española Valley and its residents through conversations, encounters, and recollections, The Pastoral Clinic is at once a devastating portrait of addiction, a rich ethnography of place, and an eloquent call for a new ethics of care. 606 $aHeroin abuse$zNew Mexico 606 $aDrug addicts$zNew Mexico 610 $aaddiction. 610 $acommunity outreach. 610 $acultural dispossession. 610 $adrug and alcohol abuse. 610 $aespanola valley. 610 $aethnography. 610 $afatal overdose. 610 $aheroin addiction. 610 $ahispanic addict. 610 $aimmigration and addiction. 610 $alyrical prose. 610 $anew ethics. 610 $anew mexico. 610 $aopioid epidemic. 610 $apolitical activists. 610 $asocial inequality. 610 $asubstance abuse treatment. 615 0$aHeroin abuse 615 0$aDrug addicts 676 $a362.29/3092368078952 700 $aGarcia$b Angela$f1971-$01541279 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910784933903321 996 $aThe pastoral clinic$93793335 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04294nam 2200625 a 450 001 9910778683803321 005 20210519191919.0 010 $a1-282-39642-0 010 $a9786612396427 010 $a90-474-4204-0 024 7 $a10.1163/ej.9789004145733.I-335 035 $a(CKB)1000000000821885 035 $a(EBL)468369 035 $a(OCoLC)647999644 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000335177 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11256957 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000335177 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10272116 035 $a(PQKB)10208797 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC468369 035 $a(nllekb)BRILL9789047442042 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL468369 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10355207 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL239642 035 $a(PPN)184923301 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000821885 100 $a20080228d2008 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aBiblical humanism and scholasticism in the age of Erasmus$b[electronic resource] /$fedited by Erika Rummel 210 $aLeiden ;$aBoston $cBrill$d2008 215 $a1 online resource (343 p.) 225 1 $aBrill's companions to the Christian tradition,$x1871-6377 ;$vv. 9 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a90-04-14573-7 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references (p. Delph. 330 $aThroughout the Middle Ages dialectical disputation was the prevailing method of scholarly inquiry. In the fifteenth century, however, humanists challenged the scholastic method, proposing instead historical and philological approaches. This volume focuses on the polemic over the right approach to biblical studies. It describes manifestations of the controversy, ranging from its beginnings in quattrocento Italy to Germany, Spain, France, the Netherlands, and scholars associated with the papal court in the sixteenth century. Erasmus, the most prominent biblical humanist of his day, served as a lightning rod for many of the controversies discussed here and has also received much attention from modern scholars. The chapters offered here seek to lend a voice also to Erasmus? critics and to right the balance in a historical narrative that has traditionally favoured the humanists.
