Nearly a third of all Americans are of non-white and non-European descent. Latinos and Hispanics have recently eclipsed African Americans as the largest minority group in the United States. Between 1990 and 2000, Asians doubled the size of their population to more than 4 percent of Americans. Though immigration has altered the racial and ethnic composition of every state in the nation, surprisingly little is known about the consequences of this new heterogeneity for American politics. This book explores the impact and political consequences of immigration. After considering the organizations that mobilize new citizens to politics, the authors examine the political psychology of group consciousness for political mobilization. Finally, they consider the emerging patterns and choices of new voters. 606 $aElections$zUnited States 606 $aImmigrants$xPolitical activity$zUnited States 606 $aMinorities$xPolitical activity$zUnited States 606 $aRace$xPolitical aspects$zUnited States 606 $aEthnicity$xPolitical aspects$zUnited States 606 $aCultural pluralism$zUnited States 607 $aUnited States$xEmigration and immigration$xPolitical aspects 607 $aUnited States$xRace relations 607 $aUnited States$xEthnic relations 615 0$aElections 615 0$aImmigrants$xPolitical activity 615 0$aMinorities$xPolitical activity 615 0$aRace$xPolitical aspects 615 0$aEthnicity$xPolitical aspects 615 0$aCultural pluralism 676 $a324.089/00973 702 $aJunn$b Jane 702 $aHaynie$b Kerry Lee 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910784793703321 996 $aNew race politics in America$93725164 997 $aUNINA
