This book begins with an analysis of the historical origins of the jubilee institution in ancient Israel, and then traces the reinterpretation of the jubilee and the text of Leviticus 25 through the Old Testament, the Second Temple literature, and the Qumran documents. It demonstrates that, with the passage of time, the socio-economic implementation of the jubilee is increasingly de-emphasized in favor of an eschatological interpretation, in which the jubilee itself functions as a type of the final age, and cycles of jubilee years are employed to calculate when this age will arrive. 410 0$aSupplements to Vetus Testamentum ;$vv. 115. 606 $aJubilee (Judaism) 606 $aSabbatical year (Judaism) 615 0$aJubilee (Judaism) 615 0$aSabbatical year (Judaism) 676 $a296.4/9 700 $aBergsma$b John Sietze$01582311 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910784507703321 996 $aThe jubilee from Leviticus to Qumran$93864587 997 $aUNINA
