Boundaries define some as members, others as aliens. But when state sovereignty is becoming frayed, and national citizenship is unravelling, definitions of political membership become much less clear. Indeed few issues in world politics today are more important, or more troubling. In her Seeley Lectures, the distinguished political theorist Seyla Benhabib makes a powerful plea, echoing Immanuel Kant, for moral universalism and cosmopolitan federalism. She advocates not open but porous boundaries, recognising both the admittance rights of refugees and asylum seekers, but also the regulatory rights of democracies. The Rights of Others is a major intervention in contemporary political theory, of interest to large numbers of students and specialists in politics, law, philosophy and international relations. 410 0$aJohn Robert Seeley lectures. ;$v5. 606 $aPolitical rights 606 $aInternationalism 606 $aCitizenship 606 $aEmigration and immigration 606 $aNoncitizens$xCivil rights 606 $aRefugees$xCivil rights 606 $aImmigrants$xCivil rights 615 0$aPolitical rights. 615 0$aInternationalism. 615 0$aCitizenship. 615 0$aEmigration and immigration. 615 0$aNoncitizens$xCivil rights. 615 0$aRefugees$xCivil rights. 615 0$aImmigrants$xCivil rights. 676 $a323.3/291 700 $aBenhabib$b Seyla$0163363 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910784316003321 996 $aThe rights of others$93713575 997 $aUNINA
