Goldsmith provides a trenchant overview of the extant literature and evidence, finding that specification and operationalization problems may explain the disconnect. Providing a distinctive and generalizable approach drawing on concepts from psychology and organizational behavior, this book refines theories of foreign policy to include observational learning to identify when imitation is likely and what behaviors are most imitated. Both statistical and case study methods are used to uncover patterns of analogy usage. Looking at Russia and the Ukraine, Goldsmith increases our understanding of the foreign policies of these two states while also expanding the empirical base of research. By exploring the practical and theoretical significance of learning and imitation, this is an important contribution for foreign policy professionals and scholars. 606 $aImitation 606 $aInternational relations 607 $aRussia (Federation)$xForeign relations 607 $aUkraine$xForeign relations$y1991-2014 607 $aRussia (Federation)$xPolitics and government$y1991- 607 $aUkraine$xPolitics and government$y1991-2014 615 0$aImitation. 615 0$aInternational relations. 676 $a327.47/009/049 700 $aGoldsmith$b Benjamin E$01483469 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910784126403321 996 $aImitation in international relations$93739886 997 $aUNINA
