However, this view is not supported by empirical linguistic and social evidence. This book sheds light on some of the common myths around being bilingual and explores the processes of dual language development among Korean children growing up in the United States. The book sensibly argues that the bilingualism of linguistic minority children is a resource to be cultivated, not a problem to be overcome. In addition, it explores various educational, social and economic pressures which hamper intergenerational transmission of heritage languages, and discusses factors that contribute to successful bilingual raising of children in spite of these pressures. A welcome addition to the growing literature on bilingual development, this book offers useful suggestions for parents, teachers and policy makers who are interested in promoting the development and maintenance of bilingual competence in linguistic minority children. 410 0$aChild language and child development ;$v5. 606 $aBilingualism in children$zUnited States 606 $aKorean American children$xLanguage 610 $aBilingual competence . 610 $aBilingual development. 610 $aBilingualism. 610 $aChild language development. 610 $aDual language development . 610 $aEnglish. 610 $aHeritage languages. 610 $aKorean. 610 $aLinguistic minority. 615 0$aBilingualism in children 615 0$aKorean American children$xLanguage. 676 $a404/.2/08309073 700 $aShin$b Sarah J.$f1970-$01208714 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910783775303321 996 $aDeveloping in two languages$93869790 997 $aUNINA
