Sweden's emergence as an independent Nordic, and indeed European, power required continual military and economic growth, which in turn necessitated a constant supply of manpower. The initially piecemeal migration of private individuals from Scotland bringing both martial and mercantile skills to Sweden gradually grew into an informal alliance, albeit officially sanctioned by the Swedes, based on personal networks. Equally the impact of Sweden's support for the Scottish Covenanting movement on British state-formation is scrutinized. This fresh perspective on Scottish-Swedish connections is aimed at those interested in state-formation, migration studies, diplomatic developments, and military history. 410 0$aThe Northern World ;$v5. 606 $aDiplomatic relations 606 $aInternational relations 607 $aScotland$xForeign relations$zSweden 607 $aSweden$xForeign relations$y1523-1718 607 $aSweden$xForeign relations$zScotland 607 $aScotland$xHistory$y17th century 607 $aScotland$xHistory$y16th century 607 $aScotland$xRelations$zSweden 607 $aSweden$xRelations$zScotland 615 0$aDiplomatic relations. 615 0$aInternational relations. 676 $a327.4110485/09/031 700 $aGrosjean$b Alexia$01504420 801 0$bNL-LeKB 801 1$bNL-LeKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910783207003321 996 $aAn Unofficial Alliance, Scotland and Sweden 1569-1654$93733417 997 $aUNINA
