This book uses historical analytical tools in order to shed light on how policymaking takes place in contemporary China: an experimental and self-fulfilling process where decisions are taken only long after being introduced into daily practice. It will be valuable to students of contemporary Chinese society and key to the understanding of 25 years of Chinese labour reform. 410 0$aChinese Worlds 606 $aLabor$zChina 606 $aLabor market$zChina 606 $aWork$zChina 607 $aChina$xEconomic conditions$y2000- 607 $aChina$xPolitics and government$y21st century 615 0$aLabor 615 0$aLabor market 615 0$aWork 676 $a331/.0951 700 $aTomba$b Luigi$0451145 801 0$bFlBoTFG 801 1$bFlBoTFG 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910791097803321 996 $a"Paradoxes of labour reform$91155344 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03246nam 22006372 450 001 9910783036203321 005 20151014102425.0 010 $a1-107-12241-4 010 $a1-280-43021-4 010 $a0-511-17542-6 010 $a0-511-01653-0 010 $a0-511-15578-6 010 $a0-511-32889-3 010 $a0-511-51007-1 010 $a0-511-04742-8 035 $a(CKB)1000000000004868 035 $a(EBL)201385 035 $a(OCoLC)56129663 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000196009 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11169293 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000196009 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10141914 035 $a(PQKB)10438932 035 $a(UkCbUP)CR9780511510076 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC201385 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL201385 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10006830 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL43021 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000004868 100 $a20090312d2002|||| uy| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 14$aThe making of the Chinese industrial workplace $estate, revolution, and labor management /$fMark W. This central institution in Chinese politics emerged over the course of various crises that swept through China's industrial sector prior to and after revolution in 1949. Frazier explores critical phases in the expansion of the Chinese state during the middle third of the twentieth century to reveal how different labour institutions reflected state power. While the 'iron rice bowl' is usually seen as an outgrowth of Communist labour policy, Frazier's account shows that is has longer historical roots. As a product of the Chinese state, the iron rice bowl's dismantling in the 1990s has raised sensitive issues about the way in which the contemporary Chinese state exerts control over urban industrial society. This book sheds light on state and society relations in China under the Nationalist and Communist regimes. 410 0$aCambridge modern China series. 606 $aLabor policy$zChina 615 0$aLabor policy 676 $a331/.0951 700 $aFrazier$b Mark W.$01034363 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910783036203321 996 $aThe making of the Chinese industrial workplace$93866423 997 $aUNINA
