C'est l'histoire de l'introduction du te?le?phone a? Montre?al, de 1880 a? 1930, que raconte ici Claire Poitras, a? partir d'une documentation extre?mement riche. La mise en place du re?seau te?le?phonique a e?te? une aventure complexe a? laquelle ont participe? d'innombrables acteurs, depuis les industriels qui ont su planifier son de?veloppement et inte?grer ses perfectionnements techniques, jusqu'aux utilisateurs qui ont du? apprivoiser un nouvel instrument de communication, en passant par les politiques qui ont tente? de re?glementer ce nouveau service public, ses tarifs, ses poteaux et ses fils. L'introduction du te?le?phone correspond au passage d'un noyau urbain compact, qui regroupe encore au milieu du XIXe sie?cle la plupart des activite?s manufacturie?res et artisanales, a? une ville « re?ticule?e » en expansion continue, ou? l'industrie des services occupe de?sormais une place pre?ponde?rante. Claire Poitras expose les compromis sociopolitiques qui ont permis le de?ploiement du te?le?phone d'une fac?on si fulgurante, que, de?ja? dans les anne?es 1920, il e?tait devenu un accessoire indispensable de la vie moderne. 606 $aTelephone systems 615 0$aTelephone systems. 676 $a651.73 700 $aPoitras$b Claire$0968177 801 0$bNjHacI 801 1$bNjHacl 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910725004103321 996 $aLa cite au bout du fil$92288306 997 $aUNINA LEADER 05017nam 2201165Ia 450 001 9910782945403321 005 20231122010749.0 010 $a1-282-35877-4 010 $a9786612358777 010 $a0-520-94032-6 010 $a1-59734-693-4 024 7 $a10.1525/9780520940321 035 $a(CKB)1000000000004331 035 $a(EBL)227304 035 $a(OCoLC)475933631 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000281084 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11193334 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000281084 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10301207 035 $a(PQKB)11322407 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC227304 035 $a(DE-B1597)519082 035 $a(OCoLC)70772799 035 $a(DE-B1597)9780520940321 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL227304 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10058546 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL235877 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000004331 100 $a20030213d2004 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aJews in Poland-Lithuania in the eighteenth century$b[electronic resource] $ea genealogy of modernity /$fGershon David Hundert 210 $aBerkeley $cUniversity of California Press$dc2004 215 $a1 online resource (307 p.) 225 0 $aS. The experience of eighteenth-century Jews in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth did not fit the pattern of integration and universalization-in short, of westernization-that historians tend to place at the origins of Jewish modernity. Hundert puts this experience, that of the majority of the Jewish people, at the center of his history. He focuses on the relations of Jews with the state and their role in the economy, and on more "internal" developments such as the popularization of the Kabbalah and the rise of Hasidism. Thus he describes the elements of Jewish experience that became the basis for a "core Jewish identity"-an identity that accompanied the majority of Jews into modernity. 606 $aJews$zPoland$xHistory$y18th century 606 $aJews$zPoland$xEconomic conditions$y18th century 606 $aJews$zPoland$xSocial conditions$y18th century 606 $aJews$zLithuania$xHistory$y18th century 606 $aJews$zLithuania$xEconomic conditions$y18th century 606 $aJews$zLithuania$xSocial conditions$y18th century 606 $aMysticism$xJudaism$xHistory$y18th century 606 $aHasidism$zEurope, Eastern$xHistory$y18th century 607 $aPoland$xEthnic relations 607 $aLithuania$xEthnic relations 610 $a18h century eastern european history. 610 $a18th century jewish history. 610 $a18th century jews. 610 $acore jewish identity. 610 $ademographic studies. 610 $aeast central europe. 610 $aeastern european jews. 610 $aeuropean jews. 610 $ahasidism. 610 $ahistorical. 610 $ahistory. 610 $aintegration. 610 $ajewish community. 610 $ajewish modernity. 610 $ajewish. 610 $ajews. 610 $ajudaism. 610 $akabbalah. 610 $aminority communities. 610 $amodernism. 610 $amodernity. 610 $apolish jewish experience. 610 $apolish lithuanian commonwealth. 610 $apolish state. 610 $apolitical. 610 $apolitics. 610 $auniversalization. 610 $aurban settlements. 610 $awesternization. 615 0$aJews$xHistory 615 0$aJews$xEconomic conditions 615 0$aJews$xSocial conditions 615 0$aJews$xHistory 615 0$aJews$xEconomic conditions 615 0$aJews$xSocial conditions 615 0$aMysticism$xJudaism$xHistory 615 0$aHasidism$xHistory 676 $a943.8/004924 700 $aHundert$b Gershon David$f1946-2023.$01435357 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910782945403321 996 $aJews in Poland-Lithuania in the eighteenth century$93711630 997 $aUNINA
