Current dissatisfaction with floating rates of exchange has spurred interest in a return to a commodity standard. The studies in this volume were designed to gain a better understanding of the historical gold standard, but they also throw light on the question of whether restoring it today could help cure inflation, high interest rates, and low productivity growth. The volume includes a review of the literature on the classical gold standard; studies the experience with gold in England, Germany, Italy, Sweden, and Canada; and perspectives on international linkages and the stability of price-level trends under the gold standard. The articles and commentaries reflect strong, conflicting views among hte participants on issues of central bank behavior, purchasing-power an interest-rate parity, independent monetary policies, economic growth, the "Atlantic economy," and trends in commodity prices and long-term interest rates. This is a thoughtful and provocative book. 410 0$aConference report (National Bureau of Economic Research) 606 $aGold standard$xHistory$vCongresses 606 $aCurrency question$xHistory$vCongresses 606 $aFinancial institutions, International$xHistory$y19th century$vCongresses 610 $agold standard, economics, economy, money, finances, great depression, 19th century, historical, history, exchange, rates, commodity standards, inflation, high interest rate, low productivity growth, literature review, england, germany, italy, sweden, canada, europe, international, stability, central bank, monetary policies, operations, transmission, business. 615 0$aGold standard$xHistory 615 0$aCurrency question$xHistory 615 0$aFinancial institutions, International$xHistory 676 $a332.4222 701 $aBordo$b Michael D$0119439 701 $aSchwartz$b Anna J$g(Anna Jacobson),$f1915-2012.$0120103 712 02$aNational Bureau of Economic Research. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910782825703321 996 $aA retrospective on the classical gold standard, 1821-1931$93746733 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02476nam0 2200529 i 450 001 VAN0124573 005 20230628105536.918 017 70$2N$a9783319964225 100 $a20191021d2018 |0itac50 ba 101 $aeng 102 $aCH 105 $a|||| ||||| 200 1 $aApplied Compositional Data Analysis$eWith Worked Examples in R$fPeter Filzmoser, Karel Hron, Matthias Templ 210 $aCham$cSpringer$d2018 215 $axvii, 280 p.$cill.$d24 cm 410 1$1001VAN0036509$12001 $aSpringer series in statistics$1210 $aBerlin [etc.]$cSpringer 500 1$3VAN0236131$aApplied Compositional Data Analysis$91564657 606 $a15A03$xVector spaces, linear dependence, rank, lineability [MSC 2020]$3VANC024422$2MF 606 $a62Hxx$xMultivariate analysis [MSC 2020]$3VANC026440$2MF 606 $a62Jxx$xLinear inference, regression [MSC 2020]$3VANC028385$2MF 606 $a62P25$xApplications of statistics to social sciences [MSC 2020]$3VANC031206$2MF 606 $a62P12$xApplications of statistics to environmental and related topics [MSC 2020]$3VANC033424$2MF 610 $aAnalyzing compositional data using R$9KW:K 610 $aApplications of compositional data analysis$9KW:K 610 $aCoDa$9KW:K 610 $aCompositional data$9KW:K 610 $aCompositional tables$9KW:K 610 $aCompositions$9KW:K 610 $aMethods for high-dimensional compositional data$9KW:K 610 $aMultivariate statistical methods$9KW:K 610 $aR package rob$9KW:K 610 $aRobust Statistics$9KW:K 610 $aStatistical environment R$9KW:K 610 $aStatistical methodology for compositional data$9KW:K 620 $aCH$dCham$3VANL001889 700 1$aFilzmoser$bPeter$3VANV081012$0721256 701 1$aHron$bKarel$3VANV095995$0768206 701 1$aTempl$bMatthias$3VANV095323$0767411 712 $aSpringer $3VANV108073$4650 801 $aIT$bSOL$c20240614$gRICA 856 4 $uhttp://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-319-96422-5$zE-book ?
