Takatoshi Ito and Andrew K. Rose have organized a group of collaborators from several Asian countries, the United States, and other parts of the globe who ably balance both macroeconomic and microeconomic study with theoretical and empirical approaches. Growth and Productivity in East Asia gives special attention to the causes for the unusual success of Australia, one of the few nations to maintain unprecedented economic growth despite the 1997 Asian financial crisis and the 2001 global downturn. A new database comprising eighty-four Japanese sectors reveals new findings for the last thirty years of sectoral productivity and growth in Japan. Studies focusing on Indonesia, Taiwan, and Korea also consider productivity and its relationship to research and development, foreign ownership, and policy reform in such industries as manufacturing, automobile production, and information technology. 410 0$aNBER-East Asia Seminar on Economics (Series) ;$vv. 13. 606 $aIndustrial productivity$zEast Asia$vCongresses 606 $aEconomic development$vCongresses 606 $aProduction (Economic theory)$vCongresses 607 $aEast Asia$xEconomic policy$vCongresses 607 $aEast Asia$xEconomic conditions$vCongresses 610 $aasian, eastern, regional, geography, global, international, australia, pacific rim, national, productive, product, industry, industrial, capital, labor, economy, economics, finance, financial, money, monetary, policy, education, technology, essay collection, anthology, macroeconomic, microeconomic, study, academic, scholarly, research, manufacturing, automobile, production, information, technological. 615 0$aIndustrial productivity 615 0$aEconomic development 615 0$aProduction (Economic theory) 676 $a338.95 701 $aIto?$b Takatoshi$f1950-$0116437 701 $aRose$b Andrew$f1959-$0123580 712 02$aNational Bureau of Economic Research. 712 12$aNBER-East Asia Seminar on Economics 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910782688803321 996 $aGrowth and productivity in East Asia$93790348 997 $aUNINA
