Concentrating on the electoral weaknesses of the Turkish centre-left, represented by the Republican People's Party (CHP), Sinan Ciddi examines the roles of nationalism and the political establishment and the role of Kemalist ideology. 410 0$aRoutledge studies in Middle Eastern politics;$v10 606 $aKemalism 606 $aSecularism$zTurkey 606 $aNationalism$zTurkey 607 $aTurkey$xPolitics and government$y1918-1960 615 0$aKemalism. 615 0$aSecularism 615 0$aNationalism 676 $a320.509561 676 $a324.2561/072 676 $a324.2561072 700 $aCiddi$b Sinan$01503761 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910782677703321 996 $aKemalism in Turkish politics$93732343 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04263nam 2200673Ia 450 001 9910787585103321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a90-04-25381-5 024 7 $a10.1163/9789004253810 035 $a(CKB)2670000000395248 035 $a(EBL)1342586 035 $a(OCoLC)855969920 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000914350 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11471007 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000914350 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10864139 035 $a(PQKB)11264017 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1342586 035 $a(OCoLC)320800609 035 $a(nllekb)BRILL9789004253810 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL1342586 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10745953 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL509667 035 $a(PPN)174543204 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000395248 100 $a20090409d2009 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aSplashed by the saint$b[electronic resource] $eritual reading and Islamic sanctity in West Java /$fJulian Millie 210 $aLeiden $cKITLV Press$d2009 215 $a1 online resource (230 p.) 225 0$aVerhandelingen van het Koninklijk Instituut voor Taal-, Land- en Volkenkunde,$x1572-1892 ;$v262 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a90-6718-338-5 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references (p. Julian Millie spent a year attending a supplication ritual in which Muslims of West Java directed their prayers to Allah through ?Abd al-Qadir al-Jaelani (d. 1166). This man, whose tomb even today is a popular pilgrimage site in Baghdad, is widely considered the most powerful intercessor of all the saints of Islam. The supplication takes the form of reading or singing the narrative proofs of ?Abd al-Qadir?s saintliness in a ritual context. The ritual has deep roots in the Sundanese culture of West Java. The book captures the variety of understandings that participants bring to the ritual when it is held in various contexts, including Java?s largest Sufi order, religious schools and private homes. This first, book-length study of intercession through ritual reading in Indonesia will be of interest to scholars of Indonesian religions, Sufism and the anthropology of Islam. It expands our knowledge of Sufism and sanctity, and seriously considers the liturgical forms of village Islam, paying special attention to the use of Arabic supplications in localized ritual practice. 410 0$aVerhandelingen van het Koninklijk Instituut voor Taal-, Land- en Volkenkunde$v262. 606 $aSufism$zIndonesia$zJawa Barat$xRituals 606 $aSundanese (Indonesian people)$xRites and ceremonies 606 $aHoliness$xIslam 606 $aPrayer$xIslam 607 $aJawa Barat (Indonesia)$xReligious life and customs 615 0$aSufism$xRituals. 615 0$aSundanese (Indonesian people)$xRites and ceremonies. 615 0$aHoliness$xIslam. 615 0$aPrayer$xIslam. 676 $a297.40955 700 $aMillie$b Julian$f1967-$01188463 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910787585103321 996 $aSplashed by the saint$93833684 997 $aUNINA
