This typology is then applied to problems of total drainage basin change and subsets of processes of change associated with slopes and channels. Geomorphology has traditionally been a descriptive discipline concerned with the evolution of landscapes over very long time periods. However, since the 1950s there has been a strong trend towards the study of contemporary processes of change and the influence of society as well as of natural biophysical factors. Consequently, an experimental approach is becoming more appropriate. Commissioned by the International Geographical Union, this work is the first to document different field methodologies in geomorphology. The contributors are internationally known geomorphologists from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan. They review methods, global coverage, and advances in understanding while at the same time promoting a more dynamic, more relevant, and more applied science of earth surface change -- the geomorphological aspects of global change. 606 $aGeomorphology$xExperiments 606 $aGeomorphology$xFieldwork 606 $aGeomorphology$xMethodology 615 0$aGeomorphology$xExperiments. 615 0$aGeomorphology$xFieldwork. 615 0$aGeomorphology$xMethodology. 676 $a551.4/1/072 701 $aSlaymaker$b Olav$f1939-$0771822 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910782628003321 996 $aField experiments and measurement programs in geomorphology$93836543 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02565nas 22005173a 450 001 996216242603316 005 20240413020403.0 011 $a1558-2183 035 $a(OCoLC)44580998 035 $a(CKB)954925591429 035 $a(CONSER) 2005215233 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB2027774-X 035 $a(EXLCZ)99954925591429 100 $a20000713a19909999 sy a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcn|||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aIEEE transactions on parallel and distributed systems $ea publication of the IEEE Computer Society 210 $aNew York, NY $cInstitute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers$dc1990- 300 $aTitle from IEEExplore homepage (viewed Jul. 13, 2000). 300 $aRefereed/Peer-reviewed 311 $a1045-9219 330 8 $aPresents "IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems," published by the Computer Society (CS) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.
