It begins with the social background to debt slavery and the socioeconomic factors encouraging the rise of debt slavery in Mesopotamia. After a comparative analysis of the Mesopotamian and biblical material Chirichigno examines the social background to debt slavery in Israel, the various slave laws in the Pentateuch (in order to delimit the chattel-slave laws from the debt-slave laws), and the biblical manumission laws themselves. 410 0$aJournal for the study of the Old Testament.$pSupplement series ;$v141. 606 $aSlavery$xLaw and legislation$xJews$xHistory 606 $aSlavery in the Bible 606 $aSlavery$xLaw and legislation$zIraq 606 $aDebt$zIsrael$xHistory 606 $aDebt$zMiddle East$xHistory 606 $aSlavery$zIsrael$xHistory 606 $aSlavery$zMiddle East$xHistory 615 0$aSlavery$xLaw and legislation$xJews$xHistory. 615 0$aSlavery in the Bible. 615 0$aSlavery$xLaw and legislation 615 0$aDebt$xHistory. 615 0$aDebt$xHistory. 615 0$aSlavery$xHistory. 615 0$aSlavery$xHistory. 676 $a221.9 700 $aChirichigno$b Gregory$f1952-$0639820 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910782600603321 996 $aDebt slavery in Israel and the ancient Near East$93692523 997 $aUNINA
