This is a pre-computer age of typewritten manuscripts, small shops and lunch hours: it is also an age of gay repression, accelerating consumerism and race riots. Hazel Smith suggests that the location and dislocation of the cityscape creates 'hyperscapes' in the poetry of Frank O'Hara. The hyperscape is a postmodern site characterised by difference, breaking down unified concepts of text, city, subject and art, and remoulding them into new textual, subjective and political spaces. This book theorises the process of disruption and re-figuration which constitutes the hyperscape, and celebrates its radicality. 606 $aHomosexuality and literature$zUnited States$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aArt and literature$zUnited States$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aDifference (Psychology) in literature 606 $aCity and town life in literature 606 $aGay men in literature 607 $aNew York (N.Y.)$xIn literature 615 0$aHomosexuality and literature$xHistory 615 0$aArt and literature$xHistory 615 0$aDifference (Psychology) in literature. 615 0$aCity and town life in literature. 615 0$aGay men in literature. 676 $a811/.54 700 $aSmith$b Hazel$f1950-$01098947 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910782581203321 996 $aHyperscapes in the poetry of Frank O'Hara$93803654 997 $aUNINA 999 $p$86.63$u12/04/2017$5Eng
