It examines the changing roles of the academic historian, the university system, the state and non-academic scholarship and the tension between them in contesting the modern history of Egypt. In a detailed discussion of the literature, the study analyzes the political nature of competing interpretations and uses the examples of Copts and resident foreigners to demonstrate the dissonant challenges to the national discourse that testify to its limitations, deficiencies and silences. 410 0$aIslamic Studies Series 606 $aNationalism$zEgypt 606 $aHistoriography$zEgypt 607 $aEgypt$xHistoriography 607 $aEgypt$xPolitics and government$y20th century 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aNationalism 615 0$aHistoriography 676 $a962/.007/2 700 $aGorman$b Anthony$f1959-,$0853986 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910462008103321 996 $aHistorians, state and politics in twentieth century Egypt$91906641 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03603oam 2200685I 450 001 9910455520703321 005 20210831221341.0 010 $a1-315-61624-6 010 $a1-317-03361-2 010 $a1-317-03360-4 010 $a1-282-24334-9 010 $a9786612243349 010 $a0-7546-9349-X 024 7 $a10.1201/9781315616247 035 $a(CKB)1000000000762197 035 $a(EBL)438714 035 $a(OCoLC)432428967 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000295674 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11229263 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000295674 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10335752 035 $a(PQKB)10877991 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC438714 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL438714 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10303007 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL224334 035 $a(OCoLC)1014375672 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000762197 100 $a20180706d2017 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 14$aThe ETTO Principle: Efficiency-Thoroughness Trade-Off $eWhy Things That Go Right Sometimes Go Wrong 205 $aFirst edition. 210 1$aBoca Raton, FL :$cCRC Press,$d2017. 215 $a1 online resource (163 p.) 300 $aIncludes index. 311 $a0-7546-7677-3 311 $a0-7546-7678-1 327 $aCover; Contents; List of Figures; List of Tables; Prologue; 1: The Need to Understand Why Things Go Wrong; 2: From Rationality to ETTOing; 3: Explaining Human Irrationality; 4: Efficiency-Thoroughness Trade-Off in Practice; 5: The Usefulness of Performance Variability; 6: ETTOs of the Past; 7: ETTOs of the Future; Epilogue; Subject Index 330 2 $a"Accident investigation and risk assessment have for decades focused on the human factor, particularly 'human error'. Countless books and papers have been written about how to identify, classify, eliminate, prevent and compensate for it. This bias towards the study of performance failures, leads to a neglect of normal or 'error-free' performance and the assumption that as failures and successes have different origins there is little to be gained from studying them together. Erik Hollnagel believes this assumption is false and that safety cannot be attained only by eliminating risks and failures. The ETTO Principle looks at the common trait of people at work to adjust what they do to match the conditions - to what has happened, to what happens, and to what may happen. It proposes that this efficiency-thoroughness trade-off (ETTO) - usually sacrificing thoroughness for efficiency - is normal. While in some cases the adjustments may lead to adverse outcomes, these are due to the very same processes that produce successes, rather than to errors and malfunctions. The ETTO Principle removes the need for specialised theories and models of failure and 'human error' and offers a viable basis for effective and just approaches to both reactive and proactive safety management."--Provided by publisher. 606 $aPerformance technology 606 $aPerformance$xPsychological aspects 606 $aIndustrial accidents 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aPerformance technology. 615 0$aPerformance$xPsychological aspects. 615 0$aIndustrial accidents. 676 $a658.3 676 $a658.3/14 676 $a658.314 700 $aHollnagel$b Erik$f1941-$0850318 801 0$bFlBoTFG 801 1$bFlBoTFG 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910455520703321 996 $aThe ETTO Principle: Efficiency-Thoroughness Trade-Off$92467400 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01997oam 2200541I 450 001 9910706223503321 005 20171030101302.0 035 $a(CKB)5470000002456205 035 $a(OCoLC)891600228 035 $a(OCoLC)995470000002456205 035 $a(EXLCZ)995470000002456205 100 $a20140929d1958 ua 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmn||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aGeology and ore deposits of the Jerome area, Yavapai County, Arizona /$fby C.
