This study demonstrates how imperial systems of provisioning and settlement that defined Ottoman power in the 1500s came unraveled in the face of ecological pressures and extreme cold and drought, leading to the outbreak of the destructive Celali Rebellion (1595-1610). This rebellion marked a turning point in Ottoman fortunes, as a combination of ongoing Little Ice Age climate events, nomad incursions and rural disorder postponed Ottoman recovery over the following century, with enduring impacts on the region's population, land use and economy. 410 0$aStudies in environment and history. 606 $aClimatic changes$xSocial aspects$zTurkey$xHistory 606 $aSocial change$zTurkey$xHistory 606 $aSocial conflict$zTurkey$xHistory 606 $aNatural resources$zTurkey$xHistory 606 $aNatural resources$zTurkey$xManagement$xHistory 607 $aTurkey$xHistory$yOttoman Empire, 1288-1918 607 $aTurkey$xEnvironmental conditions 607 $aTurkey$xClimate$xHistory 607 $aTurkey$xPopulation$xHistory 615 0$aClimatic changes$xSocial aspects$xHistory. 615 0$aSocial change$xHistory. 615 0$aSocial conflict$xHistory. 615 0$aNatural resources$xHistory. 615 0$aNatural resources$xManagement$xHistory. 676 $a956/.015 700 $aWhite$b Sam$f1980-$01006595 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910781986603321 996 $aClimate of rebellion in the early modern Ottoman Empire$92547601 997 $aUNINA
