This study demonstrates how imperial systems of provisioning and settlement that defined Ottoman power in the 1500s came unraveled in the face of ecological pressures and extreme cold and drought, leading to the outbreak of the destructive Celali Rebellion (1595-1610). This rebellion marked a turning point in Ottoman fortunes, as a combination of ongoing Little Ice Age climate events, nomad incursions and rural disorder postponed Ottoman recovery over the following century, with enduring impacts on the region's population, land use and economy. 410 0$aStudies in environment and history. 606 $aClimatic changes$xSocial aspects$zTurkey$xHistory 606 $aSocial change$zTurkey$xHistory 606 $aSocial conflict$zTurkey$xHistory 606 $aNatural resources$zTurkey$xHistory 606 $aNatural resources$zTurkey$xManagement$xHistory 607 $aTurkey$xHistory$yOttoman Empire, 1288-1918 607 $aTurkey$xEnvironmental conditions 607 $aTurkey$xClimate$xHistory 607 $aTurkey$xPopulation$xHistory 615 0$aClimatic changes$xSocial aspects$xHistory. 615 0$aSocial change$xHistory. 615 0$aSocial conflict$xHistory. 615 0$aNatural resources$xHistory. 615 0$aNatural resources$xManagement$xHistory. 676 $a956/.015 700 $aWhite$b Sam$f1980-$01006595 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910781986603321 996 $aClimate of rebellion in the early modern Ottoman Empire$92547601 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03809oam 2200853I 450 001 9910962752403321 005 20251117080419.0 010 $a1-4665-5897-0 010 $a0-429-25110-6 010 $a1-4398-4591-3 024 7 $a10.1201/b11655 035 $a(CKB)2670000000151405 035 $a(EBL)863104 035 $a(OCoLC)819594631 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000611660 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11362703 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000611660 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10646765 035 $a(PQKB)11018593 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC863104 035 $a(OCoLC)785074709 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000151405 100 $a20180331d2012 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aDeath scene investigation $eprocedural guide /$fMichael S.
