While many painful issues have been addressed and Jews and Christians in dialogue have achieved a solid respect for each other, the basic disagreement over the Christian designation of Jesus as the Jewish messiah still stands. Theologians have suggested varying approaches but none convince both parties. This work employs William James' radical empirical method to show that the original Jewish messianic concept, the Christian shift, and the Jewish repudiation of the shift, can each be seen as valid faith variants. 410 0$aJudaism and Jewish life. 606 $aMessiah 606 $aChristianity and other religions$xJudaism 615 0$aMessiah. 615 0$aChristianity and other religions$xJudaism. 676 $a261.2/6 700 $aWyse$b Marion$01468121 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910781843603321 996 $aVariations on the messianic theme$93679100 997 $aUNINA
