The present study considers both the confluence of textual traditions within this work and the stylistic and iconographic relationships of its illustrations, which make it a key witness to early thirteenth-century Arab painting. After a re-evaluation of previous approaches, emphasis is placed on relating image to text, on stylistic affiliations, and on the modalities of production, supported by technical analyses undertaken for the first time. In elucidating the particular context of this unique manuscript, the study contributes to our understanding of a critical period in the development of Middle Eastern painting and art. 606 $aIllumination of books and manuscripts, Arab 606 $aIslamic illumination of books and manuscripts 606 $aIllumination of books and manuscripts, Medieval$zArab countries 606 $aIllumination of books and manuscripts, Medieval$zIslamic countries 606 $aBestiaries$zArab countries 615 0$aIllumination of books and manuscripts, Arab. 615 0$aIslamic illumination of books and manuscripts. 615 0$aIllumination of books and manuscripts, Medieval 615 0$aIllumination of books and manuscripts, Medieval 615 0$aBestiaries 676 $a745.6/74927 700 $aContadini$b Anna$0704549 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910781415403321 996 $aA world of beasts$93750503 997 $aUNINA
