Based on official records and the testimony of dozens of participants, it is the first study to try to understand the world of the mutineers. Examining their words for the traces of sensory perceptions, emotions and thought processes, it reveals that the conventional understanding of the mutinies as the result of simple war-weariness and low morale is inadequate. In fact, an emotional gulf separated officers and the ranks, who simply did not speak the same language. The revolt entailed emotional sequences ending in a deep ambivalence and sense of despair or regret. Taking this into account, the book considers how mutineer memories persisted after the events in the face of official censorship, repression and the French Communist Party's co-option of the mutiny. 410 0$aStudies in modern French history. 606 $aMutiny$zFrance 606 $aHistory, Modern$y20th century 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aMutiny 615 0$aHistory, Modern 676 $a359.13340944 700 $aPerry$b Matt$0524158 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910480412503321 996 $aMutinous memories$92248033 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04014nam 2200733 a 450 001 9910781166403321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a1-282-92436-2 010 $a9786612924361 010 $a0-8176-4795-3 024 7 $a10.1007/978-0-8176-4795-7 035 $a(CKB)2550000000015791 035 $a(EBL)602957 035 $a(OCoLC)656399123 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000432951 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11293239 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000432951 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10389948 035 $a(PQKB)10856933 035 $a(DE-He213)978-0-8176-4795-7 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC602957 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL602957 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10402456 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL292436 035 $a(PPN)149047959 035 $a(EXLCZ)992550000000015791 100 $a20080221d2008 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aAdvances in statistical control, algebraic systems theory, and dynamic systems characteristics$b[electronic resource] $ea tribute to Michael K. Engineering education. 330 $aThis volume?dedicated to Michael K. Sain on the occasion of his seventieth birthday?is a collection of chapters covering recent advances in stochastic optimal control theory and algebraic systems theory. Written by experts in their respective fields, the chapters are thematically organized into four parts: * Part I focuses on statistical control theory, where the cost function is viewed as a random variable and performance is shaped through cost cumulants. In this respect, statistical control generalizes linear-quadratic-Gaussian and H-infinity control. * Part II addresses algebraic systems theory, reviewing the use of algebraic systems over semirings, modules of zeros for linear multivariable systems, and zeros in linear time-delay systems. * Part III discusses advances in dynamical systems characteristics. The chapters focus on the stability of a discontinuous dynamical system, approximate decentralized fixed modes, direct optimal adaptive control, and stability of nonlinear systems with limited information. * Part IV covers engineering education and includes a unique chapter on theology and engineering, one of Sain's latest research interests. The book will be a useful reference for researchers and graduate students in systems and control, algebraic systems theory, and applied mathematics. Requiring only knowledge of undergraduate-level control and systems theory, the work may be used as a supplementary textbook in a graduate course on optimal control or algebraic systems theory. 410 0$aSystems & control. 606 $aStochastic control theory 606 $aNonlinear control theory 606 $aSystem analysis 606 $aDifferentiable dynamical systems 615 0$aStochastic control theory. 615 0$aNonlinear control theory. 615 0$aSystem analysis. 615 0$aDifferentiable dynamical systems. 676 $a515.642 676 $a519.2 701 $aWon$b Chang-Hee$01471150 701 $aSchrader$b Cheryl B$01471151 701 $aMichel$b Anthony N$026206 701 $aSain$b Michael K$058392 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910781166403321 996 $aAdvances in statistical control, algebraic systems theory, and dynamic systems characteristics$93683322 997 $aUNINA
