Founded against the backdrop of occupation, it is open to all students, irrespective of income. Putting the study of democracy and tolerance at the heart of its curriculum, Birzeit continues to produce idealistic young people who can work to bring about a peaceful future. Gabi Baramki explains how the University has survived against shocking odds, including direct attacks where Israeli soldiers have shot unarmed students. Baramki himself has been dragged from his home at night, beaten and arrested. Yet Birzeit continues to thrive, putting peace at the heart of its teaching, and offering Palestinians the opportunities that only education can bring. 606 $aAcademic freedom$zWest Bank 606 $aPalestinian Arabs$xEducation$zIsrael 615 0$aAcademic freedom 615 0$aPalestinian Arabs$xEducation 676 $a371.1/04 700 $aBaramki$b Gabi$01515337 701 $aCarter$b Jimmy$f1924-$0675550 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910781158603321 996 $aPeaceful resistance$93751001 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03844nam 2200733 450 001 9910807023203321 005 20230125221648.0 010 $a1-60649-709-X 035 $a(CKB)2550000001189425 035 $a(EBL)1598181 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001162394 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11629726 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001162394 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11135957 035 $a(PQKB)10882931 035 $a(OCoLC)869630669 035 $a(CaBNVSL)swl00403096 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL1598181 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10830089 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL568285 035 $a(OCoLC)868965101 035 $a(CaSebORM)9781606497098 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1598181 035 $a(EXLCZ)992550000001189425 100 $a20140125d2014 fy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aLeadership talk $ea discourse approach to leader emergence /$fRobyn Walker and Jolanta Aritz 205 $aFirst edition. 210 1$aNew York, New York (222 East 46th Street, New York, NY 10017) :$cBusiness Expert Press,$d2014. 215 $a1 online resource (180 p.) 225 1 $aCorporate communication collection,$x2156-8170 300 $aPart of: 2013 digital library. 311 $a1-60649-708-1 311 $a1-306-37034-5 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references (pages 151-159) and index. 327 $a1. Traditionally, management theories have taken a psychological approach to leadership, often assuming that it is a personality trait located within an individual. In contrast, the discursive approach to leadership, which is the focus of this book, assumes that leadership is created through communication practices. With this understanding, we explore a new definition of leadership as the expression of ideas in talk or in action that are recognized by others as capable of progressing tasks or solving problems. The practical implication of this view of leadership suggests that leaders must constantly enact and communicate their relationship to their followers in such a way as to be recognized by them as a leader. Leadership thus becomes the negotiation that occurs between potential leaders and followers and is thus created in interaction within a particular organizational culture and context rather than residing in the individual. Consequently, leadership becomes the purview of those with excellent analytical skills and communication practices rather than a given personality type. It can be thus be learned and practiced by anyone with the tools to do so. 410 0$a2013 digital library. 410 0$aCorporate communication collection.$x2156-8170 606 $aLeadership 610 $aleadership 610 $adiscourse studies 610 $adiscursive leadership 610 $agender and leadership 610 $aintercultural leadership 610 $agroup dynamics and communication 610 $abusiness communication 610 $aapplied linguistics 610 $amanagement communication 615 0$aLeadership. 676 $a658.4092 700 $aWalker$b Robyn.$0890741 702 $aAritz$b Jolanta$f1968-, 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910807023203321 996 $aLeadership talk$94025305 997 $aUNINA
