Yet the country's social indicators and the integrity of its political institutions declined rapidly within a few short years, while inequality grew dramatically. Conducting an unflinching investigation into these developments, Sophal Ear reveals the pernicious effects of aid dependence and its perversion of Cambodian democracy.International intervention and foreign aid resulted in higher maternal (and possibly infant and child) mortality rates and unprecedented corruption by the mid-2000s. Similarly, in example after example, Ear finds the more aid dependent a country, the more distorted its incentives to develop sustainably. Contrasting Cambodia's clothing sector with its rice and livestock sectors and internal handling of the avian flu epidemic, he showcases the international community's role in preventing Cambodia from controlling its national development.A postconflict state unable to refuse aid, Cambodia is rife with trial-and-error donor experiments and their unintended consequences, such as bad governance and poor domestic and tax revenue performance-a major factor curbing sustainable, nationally owned growth. By outlining the terms through which countries can achieve better ownership of their development, Ear offers alternatives for governments still on the brink of collapse, despite ongoing dependence on foreign intervention and aid. 606 $aDemocracy$zCambodia 606 $aEconomic assistance$xPolitical aspects$zCambodia 606 $aTechnical assistance$xPolitical aspects$zCambodia 607 $aCambodia$xPolitics and government$y1979- 607 $aCambodia$xEconomic conditions 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aDemocracy 615 0$aEconomic assistance$xPolitical aspects 615 0$aTechnical assistance$xPolitical aspects 676 $a320.9596 700 $aEar$b Sophal$0942845 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910462316703321 996 $aAid dependence in Cambodia$92472052 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02527nam 2200565 450 001 9910464841603321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a0-309-26569-X 010 $a0-309-26657-2 035 $a(CKB)3710000000103246 035 $a(EBL)3379104 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000789122 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11506105 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000789122 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10723573 035 $a(PQKB)10878101 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3379104 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3379104 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10863753 035 $a(OCoLC)940510560 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000103246 100 $a20140505h20122012 uy| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aReusable booster system $ereview and assessment /$fCommittee for the Reusable Booster System, Review and Assessment, Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board, Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences, National Research Council of the National Academies 210 1$aWashington, DC :$cThe National Academies Press,$d[2012] 210 4$dİ2012 215 $a1 online resource (114 p.) 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a0-309-26656-4 311 $a0-309-26653-X 327 $aFront Matter; Acknowledgment of Reviewers; Contents; Summary; 1 Background; 2 Air Force EELV-Class Launch Requirements and Approaches; 3 Reusable Booster System Technology Assessment; 4 Cost Assessment; 5 Program Implementation; 6 Findings and Recommendations; Appendixes; Appendix A: Statement of Task; Appendix B: Committee Member and Staff Biographies; Appendix C: List of Presenters to the Committee; Appendix D: Acronyms and Abbreviations; Appendix E: Selected Reusable Launch Vehicle Development History; Appendix F: RBS Booster Design for Operability 606 $aSpace shuttles$xPropulsion systems$vCongresses 606 $aReusable space vehicles$vCongresses 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aSpace shuttles$xPropulsion systems 615 0$aReusable space vehicles 676 $a629.40973 712 02$aNational Research Council (U.S.).$bCommittee for the Reusable Booster System: Review and Assessment, 712 02$aNational Research Council (U.S.).$bAeronautics and Space Engineering Board, 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910464841603321 996 $aReusable booster system$92242049 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03119nam 2200637Ia 450 001 9910781121203321 005 20200520144314.0 035 $a(CKB)2550000000019439 035 $a(EBL)475220 035 $a(OCoLC)609852646 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000482782 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11317871 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000482782 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10529179 035 $a(PQKB)11349405 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL475220 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10387779 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC475220 035 $a(EXLCZ)992550000000019439 100 $a19980325d1998 ua 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aArchaeology of the Moundville chiefdom$b[electronic resource] /$fedited by Vernon James Knight, Jr. and Vincas P. Today, Moundville is not only one the largest and best-preserved Mississippian sites in the United States, but also one of the most intensively studied. This volume brings together nine Moundville specialists who trace the site's evolution and eventual decline. 410 0$aSmithsonian series in archaeological inquiry. 606 $aMississippian culture$zAlabama$zBlack Warrior River Valley 606 $aChiefdoms$zAlabama$zBlack Warrior River Valley 606 $aIndian pottery$zAlabama$zBlack Warrior River Valley 606 $aSocial archaeology$zAlabama$zBlack Warrior River Valley 607 $aMoundville Archaeological Park (Moundville, Ala.) 607 $aBlack Warrior River Valley (Ala.)$xAntiquities 615 0$aMississippian culture 615 0$aChiefdoms 615 0$aIndian pottery 615 0$aSocial archaeology 676 $a976 676 $a976.1/43 701 $aKnight$b Vernon J$01029062 701 $aSteponaitis$b Vincas P$01502529 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910781121203321 996 $aArchaeology of the Moundville chiefdom$93730361 997 $aUNINA
