Among his publications are a comprehensive history of the discovery of insulin, and major biographies of Frederick Banting, William Osler, and Harvey Cushing. The essays in this volume, each written by former doctoral students of Bliss, with a foreword by John Fraser and Elizabeth McCallum, do honour to his influence, and, at the same time, reflect upon the writing of history in Canada at the end of the twentieth century.The opening essays discuss Bliss's career, his impact on the study of history, and his academic record. Bliss himself contributes an autobiographical essay that strengthens our understanding of the business of scholarship, teaching, and writing. In the second section, the contributors interrogate public mythmaking in the relationship between politics and business in eighteenth-, nineteenth-, and twentieth-century Canada. Further sections investigate the relationship between fatherhood, religion, and historiography, as well as topics in health and public policy. A final section on 'Medical Science and Practice' deals with subjects ranging from early endocrinology, lobotomy, the mechanical heart, and medical biography as a genre. Going beyond a collection of dedicatory essays, this volume explores the wider subject of writing social and medical history in Canada in the late twentieth century. 606 $aMedicine$zCanada$xHistory 607 $aCanada$xSocial conditions 607 $aCanada$xHistoriography 607 $aCanada$xHistory 607 $aCanada$xReligion$xHistory 608 $aFestschriften. 608 $aHistory. 608 $aFestschriften. 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aMedicine$xHistory. 676 $a309.171 702 $aHeaman$b Elsbeth$f1964- 702 $aLi$b Alison$f1963- 702 $aMcKellar$b Shelley 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910781112203321 996 $aEssays in honour of Michael Bliss$93855974 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01736nam0-22005291i-450 001 990008094970403321 005 20250410101743.0 010 $a88-299-1696-X 035 $a000809497 035 $aFED01000809497 035 $a(Aleph)000809497FED01 035 $a000809497 100 $a20050421d2004----km-y0itay50------ba 101 0 $aita 102 $aIT 105 $ay-------001yy 200 1 $aChimica degli alimenti$enutrienti, alimenti di origine vegetale, alimenti di origine animale, integratori alimentari, bevande, sostanze indesiderabili$fPaolo Cabras, Aldo Martelli 210 $aPadova$cPiccin$dc2004 215 $aXIX, 731 p.$d27 cm 610 0 $aAlimenti$aAnalisi 676 $a664.07$v20$zita 700 1$aCabras,$bPaolo$f<1942- >$0310215 701 1$aMartelli,$bAldo$0286166 801 0$aIT$bUNINA$gRICA$2UNIMARC 901 $aBK 912 $a990008094970403321 952 $a80 IX 112$bBFA1/2017$fFFABC 952 $a80 IX 113 CP$bBFA2/2017$fFFABC 952 $a80 IX 114$bBFA3/2017$fFFABC 952 $a80 798/IX 183$bBFA798/2023$fFFABC 952 $a80 932 IX 197$bBFA932/2024$fFFABC 952 $a80 933 IX 198$bBFA933/2024$fFFABC 952 $a60 664.07 CABP 2004$b9984$fFAGBC 952 $a60 664.07 CABP 2004 BIS$b11394$fFAGBC 952 $a60 664.07 CABP 2004 TER$b11395$fFAGBC 952 $a60 664.07 B 139$b14017$fFAGBC 952 $aXII B 21-1$b229$fFMVBC 952 $a60 664.07 664.07 CABP 2004$b14312$fNAP11 952 $a60 664.07 CABP 2004 QUA$b14311$fFAGBC 952 $a664.07-CAB-1$b519/2023$fSC1 959 $aFFABC 959 $aFAGBC 959 $aFMVBC 959 $aNAP11 959 $aSC1 996 $aChimica degli alimenti$988469 997 $aUNINA
