In this book Tim Dartington explores the dynamics of care. He argues that we know how to do it, but somehow we seem to keep getting it wrong. Poor care in hospitals and care homes is well documented, and yet it continues. Care for people in their own homes is seen as an ideal, but the reality can be cruel and isolating. Tim describes research over forty years in thinking why institutional and community care are both subject to processes of denial and fear of dependency. His examples include children in hospital, people with disabilities living in the community, and the care of older people and those with dementia. He asks why there has been such splitting between health and social care and what underlying purpose this split may have in a societal response to vulnerability and long-term dependency. He also explores the implications of such dynamics of care in a vivid case study, drawn from his own experience, of the care as it developed over six years around a vulnerable person living and dying at home."--Provided by publisher. 410 0$aTavistock Clinic series. 606 $aMedical care 606 $aMedical ethics 606 $aSocial service$xMoral and ethical aspects 606 $aEmpathy 615 0$aMedical care. 615 0$aMedical ethics. 615 0$aSocial service$xMoral and ethical aspects. 615 0$aEmpathy. 676 $a362.941 676 $a616.8914 700 $aDartington$b Tim$0296223 801 0$bOCoLC-P 801 1$bOCoLC-P 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910785250203321 996 $aManaging Vulnerability$93816723 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03471nam 2200769Ia 450 001 9910780932103321 005 20230424142715.0 010 $a0-19-756277-9 010 $a1-282-38811-8 010 $a9786612388118 010 $a0-19-974219-7 035 $a(CKB)2550000000002685 035 $a(EBL)472155 035 $a(OCoLC)593209661 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000334803 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11256941 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000334803 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10271531 035 $a(PQKB)11705131 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC472155 035 $a(StDuBDS)EDZ0002341771 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL472155 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10356810 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL238811 035 $a(PPN)150330316 035 $a(EXLCZ)992550000000002685 100 $a20090316h20202010 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 14$aThe aqueous chemistry of the elements$b[electronic resource] /$fGeorge K.
