The rapid and seemingly irresistible rise of the VAT is probably the most important tax development of the latter twentieth century, and certainly the most breathtaking. Written by a team of experts from the IMF, this book examines the remarkable spread and current reach of the innovative tax and draws lessons about the design and implementation of the VAT, as experienced by different countries around the world. How efficient is it as a tax, is it fair, and is it suitable for all countries? These are among the questions raised. This highly informative and well-researched book also looks at the likely future of the tax. 410 0$aBooks 606 $aValue-added tax 606 $aMacroeconomics$2imf 606 $aMoney and Monetary Policy$2imf 606 $aPublic Finance$2imf 606 $aTaxation$2imf 606 $aInternational Taxation$2imf 606 $aBusiness Taxes and Subsidies$2imf 606 $aTaxation, Subsidies, and Revenue: General$2imf 606 $aPersonal Income and Other Nonbusiness Taxes and Subsidies$2imf 606 $aAuditing$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomics: Consumption$2imf 606 $aSaving$2imf 606 $aWealth$2imf 606 $aPublic finance & taxation$2imf 606 $aManagement accounting & bookkeeping$2imf 606 $aMonetary economics$2imf 606 $aAgricultural economics$2imf 606 $aValue-added tax$2imf 606 $aConsumption taxes$2imf 606 $aTax administration core functions$2imf 606 $aIncome and capital gains taxes$2imf 606 $aTaxes$2imf 606 $aRevenue administration$2imf 606 $aPublic financial management (PFM)$2imf 606 $aSpendings tax$2imf 606 $aIncome tax$2imf 606 $aTax administration and procedure$2imf 606 $aDouble taxation$2imf 607 $aUnited Kingdom$2imf 615 0$aValue-added tax. 615 7$aMacroeconomics 615 7$aMoney and Monetary Policy 615 7$aPublic Finance 615 7$aTaxation 615 7$aInternational Taxation 615 7$aBusiness Taxes and Subsidies 615 7$aTaxation, Subsidies, and Revenue: General 615 7$aPersonal Income and Other Nonbusiness Taxes and Subsidies 615 7$aAuditing 615 7$aMacroeconomics: Consumption 615 7$aSaving 615 7$aWealth 615 7$aPublic finance & taxation 615 7$aManagement accounting & bookkeeping 615 7$aMonetary economics 615 7$aAgricultural economics 615 7$aValue-added tax 615 7$aConsumption taxes 615 7$aTax administration core functions 615 7$aIncome and capital gains taxes 615 7$aTaxes 615 7$aRevenue administration 615 7$aPublic financial management (PFM) 615 7$aSpendings tax 615 7$aIncome tax 615 7$aTax administration and procedure 615 7$aDouble taxation 676 $a336.2/714 700 $aEbrill$b Liam$0464848 701 $aKeen$b Michael$0125941 701 $aPerry$b Victoria$01489568 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910780751703321 996 $aThe Modern VAT$93710312 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04852nam 2200709 450 001 9910789397203321 005 20230803201852.0 010 $a0-8135-6229-5 024 7 $a10.36019/9780813562292 035 $a(CKB)3710000000089288 035 $a(EBL)1637106 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001132169 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11641073 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001132169 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11147550 035 $a(PQKB)11422801 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1637106 035 $a(OCoLC)871190251 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse31617 035 $a(DE-B1597)526233 035 $a(DE-B1597)9780813562292 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL1637106 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10838926 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL577261 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000089288 100 $a20140228h20142014 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|||||||nn|n 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 14$aThe ex-prisoner's dilemma $ehow women negotiate competing narratives of reentry and desistance /$fAndrea M. Staff from prison, friends, family members, workers at halfway houses and treatment programs all have something to say about who she is, who she should be, and what she should do. The Ex-Prisoner's Dilemma offers an in-depth, firsthand look at how the former prisoner manages messages about returning to the community. Over the course of a year, Andrea Leverentz conducted repeated interviews with forty-nine women as they adjusted to life outside of prison and worked to construct new ideas of themselves as former prisoners and as mothers, daughters, sisters, romantic partners, friends, students, and workers. Listening to these women, along with their family members, friends, and co-workers, Leverentz pieces together the narratives they have created to explain their past records and guide their future behavior. She traces where these narratives came from and how they were shaped by factors such as gender, race, maternal status, age, and experiences in prison, halfway houses, and twelve-step programs-factors that in turn shaped the women's expectations for themselves, and others' expectations of them. The women's stories form a powerful picture of the complex, complicated human experience behind dry statistics and policy statements regarding prisoner reentry into society for women, how the experience is different for men and the influence society plays. With its unique view of how society's mixed messages play out in ex-prisoners' lived realities, The Ex-Prisoner's Dilemma shows the complexity of these women's experiences within the broad context of the war on drugs and mass incarceration in America. It offers invaluable lessons for helping such women successfully rejoin society. 410 0$aCritical issues in crime and society. 606 $aWomen prisoners$xRehabilitation$zUnited States 606 $aCriminals$xRehabilitation$zUnited States 606 $aEx-convicts$xServices for$zUnited States 606 $aPrisoners$xFamily relationships$zUnited States 606 $aEx-convicts$zUnited States$vLongitudinal studies 610 $atwelve step and desistance messages. 615 0$aWomen prisoners$xRehabilitation 615 0$aCriminals$xRehabilitation 615 0$aEx-convicts$xServices for 615 0$aPrisoners$xFamily relationships 615 0$aEx-convicts 676 $a365/.660820973 700 $aLeverentz$b Andrea M.$f1973-$01577232 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910789397203321 996 $aThe ex-prisoner's dilemma$93855646 997 $aUNINA
