Eastern European Jewish immigrants are often credited with building a film industry during the first decade of the twentieth century that they dominated by the 1920s. In this study, Steven Carr reconceptualizes Jewish involvement in Hollywood by examining prevalent attitudes towards Jews among American audiences. Analogous to the Jewish Question of the nineteenth century, which was concerned with the full participation of Jews within public life, the Hollywood Question of the 1920s, 30s, and 40s addressed the Jewish population within mass media. This study reveals the powerful set of assumptions concerning ethnicity and media influence as related to the role of the Jew in the motion picture industry. 410 0$aCambridge Studies in the history of mass communication. 517 3 $aHollywood & Anti-Semitism 606 $aMotion picture industry$zCalifornia$zLos Angeles$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aJews in the motion picture industry$zUnited States 606 $aAntisemitism$zUnited States 615 0$aMotion picture industry$xHistory 615 0$aJews in the motion picture industry 615 0$aAntisemitism 676 $a384/.8/089924073 700 $aCarr$b Steven Alan$f1964-$01530758 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910780085603321 996 $aHollywood and anti-semitism$93776035 997 $aUNINA
