Adjuncts' possible hierarchical positions are determined by whether they can receive a proper interpretation, according to their selectional (including scope) requirements and general compositional rules, while linear order is determined by hierarchical position along with a system of directionality principles and morphological weight, both of which apply generally to adjuncts and all other syntactic elements. A wide range of adverbial types is analysed; predicational adverbs (such as manner, and modal adverbs), domain expressions like financially, temporal, frequency, duration and focusing adverbials; participant PPs (e.g. locatives and benefactives); resultative and conditional clauses, and others, taken primarily from English, Chinese, French and Italian, with occasional reference to others (such as German and Japanese). 410 0$aCambridge studies in linguistics ;$v96. 606 $aGrammar, Comparative and general$xAdverbials 606 $aGrammar, Comparative and general$xAdjuncts 606 $aGrammar, Comparative and general$xSyntax 606 $aSemantics 615 0$aGrammar, Comparative and general$xAdverbials. 615 0$aGrammar, Comparative and general$xAdjuncts. 615 0$aGrammar, Comparative and general$xSyntax. 615 0$aSemantics. 676 $a415 700 $aErnst$b Thomas Boyden$0597057 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910780071203321 996 $aSyntax of adjuncts$91029323 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02059nam 2200601 a 450 001 9910780200103321 005 20230207222905.0 010 $a1-84964-075-0 010 $a0-585-42628-7 035 $a(CKB)111056486517366 035 $a(StDuBDS)AH22933379 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000108663 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11129030 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000108663 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10059948 035 $a(PQKB)10099525 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3386153 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3386153 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10479625 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL987801 035 $a(OCoLC)923331056 035 $a(EXLCZ)99111056486517366 100 $a20010724d2000 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aBallymurphy and the Irish war$b[electronic resource] /$fCiara?n de Baro?id ; foreword by Bernadette McAliskey 205 $aNew ed. 210 $aLondon ;$aSterling, Va. $cPluto$d2000 215 $a1 online resource (448 p.) 300 $aPrevious ed.: 1990. 311 $a0-7453-1509-7 311 $a0-7453-1514-3 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references (p.
